Students of BSS 2022 from the Department of Sociology, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), successfully completed a five-day academic field visit to the Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya, Coxโs Bazar, as part of the course Sociology of Migration and Diaspora.
The program was conducted under the supervision of Associate Professor Al Jamal Mustafa Shindiani. Institutional support was provided by Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, BGBM, PBGM, G+, Chairman of the Department of Sociology, BUP. To ensure the successful and smooth completion of the field visit, Lecturer Nusrat Jahan Suchi and Lecturer Redwan Islam Palash provided continuous guidance and support to the students throughout the program.
During the field visit, the students participated in briefing sessions at ILO and RRRC. In addition, they conducted extensive fieldwork and data collection activities within the Rohingya Camp, gaining practical experience in migration studies, refugee issues, and humanitarian challenges. The students also attended a specialized briefing session at the BRAC Centre for Peace and Justice, which further enriched their understanding of displacement, social integration, and policy responses related to the Rohingya crisis.
Through this field visit, the students gained hands-on research experience by directly engaging with both the Rohingya community and the local host community. This experience significantly enhanced their academic and analytical understanding of migration and diaspora studies.
Later, the students presented their research findings and analyses based on the data collected from the field.
Finally, certificates were distributed among the students in the presence of the respected Dean, Chairman and faculty members.
