Today, students of the BSS 12th batch 2nd Senester from the Department of Television, Film and Photography (TFP), University of Dhaka, visited the Channel i news studio as part of their course TFP 107: Television News Reporting and Anchoring, under the guidance of the course instructor Mir Attaqvi Masruruzzaman, Chief News Editor of Channel i and a prominent Bangladeshi journalist and media personality.

This educational visit provided students with valuable firsthand exposure to the operations of a professional broadcast network. Through observing live newsroom activities, control room coordination, and professional news anchoring environments, they gained practical insights into the realities of television journalism, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice. During the visit, acclaimed Bangladeshi journalist Shykh Seraj, widely recognized for his contributions to agricultural journalism and development, shared his experiences and offered valuable advice to the students.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Channel i and Shykh Seraj for warmly welcoming our students and facilitating this enriching practical learning experience.

Today, the Department of Television, Film and Photography, University of Dhaka, formalized a collaboration with Films Five, a Bangladesh-based production house engaged in developing feature and short films through structured production practices while fostering emerging voices in contemporary Bangladeshi cinema.

Under this collaboration, Films Five will provide annual student production support to at least three (03) students, preferably final-year students, granting access to camera and lighting equipment for a maximum of two shooting days per project. The partner will also facilitate internship placements, on-set attachments, or supervised practical experience for students as recommended by the Department, subject to its operational capacity at the time, alongside coordinated promotional engagement through relevant communication platforms.

The agreement was signed by Barkat Hossain Polash, Co-Founder of Films Five, and Saiyeed Shahjada Al Kareem, Chairperson of the Department.

Notably, this partnership formalizes an already sustained relationship, as acclaimed cinematographer and adjunct faculty member Barkat Hossain Polash has, over the past three years, extended his support to the Department and its students with a quiet and consistent generosity, offering his time, expertise, and resources without formal expectation, and in doing so, significantly contributing to the Department’s practice-based learning environment.

The Department expresses sincere appreciation to Barkat Hossain Polash and Films Five for their sustained support in nurturing the next generation of audiovisual storytellers.

Yesterday, the Department of Television, Film and Photography at the University of Dhaka had the privilege of hosting veteran actor Aminur Rahman Mukul as the closing guest lecturer for the course TFP 407: Advanced Narrative Production.

During the session, students watched selected clips from his previous works. Following the screenings, he engaged in an open discussion with the students, sharing valuable insights from his experiences and reflecting on the creative and performative processes behind those particular scenes.

We believe engagements like these play an important role in bridging academic learning with professional practice. Such interactions enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the creative thinking, collaboration, and decision-making involved in transforming a script into a screen performance. They also provide students with firsthand perspectives on how actors and creative professionals navigate the realities of production work.

Special thanks to the course instructor Rezwan Shahriar Sumit for arranging this enriching session and creating opportunities for students to learn directly from an experienced industry practitioner.

Yesterday, the Department of Television, Film and Photography, University of Dhaka, became a live film set as scenes from the upcoming Bangladeshi film 'Moving Bangladesh,' directed by Nuhash Humayun were shot across our premises.

The primary purpose of facilitating this opportunity was to create a meaningful learning experience for our students. Recognizing that our 9th batch students will be producing their graduate films next semester, the shoot was treated as a practical workshop where they could observe and engage with a real-life professional production environment. The experience allowed students to gain firsthand exposure to on-set collaboration, production workflow, and the practical realities of filmmaking beyond the classroom.

We were also pleased to have filmmaker and producer Arifur Rahman, and Bijon Imtiaz of Goopy Bagha Productions Limited, along with renowned Bangladeshi-American producer Anadil Hossain of Dillywood Inc., present.

During informal discussions, they shared valuable insights regarding future opportunities and potential collaborative prospects for the Department.

Creating such opportunities where education and industry practice intersect remains an important commitment of the Department.
