BBA in Finance, 31st Batch: Striking the Perfect Balance – A Huge Success!
Department of Finance, University of Dhaka successfully hosted the interactive session titled "Striking the Perfect Balance: Academics, Extracurriculars, and Personal Life" for its BBA in Finance, 31st Batch Freshers on July 29, 2025. The session saw huge participation from our freshers who truly appreciated the insights shared by our esteemed speakers.
Ms. Pallabi Siddiqua, the host of the session, opened by highlighting the importance of balancing academic pursuits with personal and extracurricular growth. She emphasized how this balance is essential not only for academic success but for holistic development during university life.
Taj E Nur, Supply Chain Manager at Unilever Bangladesh, inspired students by discussing the value of consistency in both academic and extracurricular engagements. She shared how dedicating even small amounts of time consistently can lead to long-term success. Taj also spoke about the importance of managing overwhelming situations through the technique of compartmentalization, where less urgent matters are temporarily set aside to focus on what’s immediately pressing. She encouraged students to overcome procrastination with small rewards and stressed the significance of avoiding comparisons with others, instead focusing on maximizing personal potential.
Shoumik Shahriar, Senior Business Consultant and Project Manager at LightCastle Partners, shared his perspective on extracurricular activities. While acknowledging that they are not essential for success, he highlighted how they can help develop critical skills such as team management, communication, and problem-solving that are not always offered through academic programs. He urged students to carefully evaluate their expectations before committing to any extracurricular activity to ensure it aligns with their personal goals and values.
Mohd. Anisul Islam, Assistant Professor at the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka, emphasized the importance of being disciplined in life. He delivered a thought-provoking message, reminding freshers that graduating from the same department does not guarantee the same path. While some alumni have gone on to become CEOs of leading institions, diplomats, and top investment professionals, MBA graduates from world's top universities while some others have sadly strayed into unethical and even criminal behavior. He emphasized that success depends not just on gaining admission to a prestigious department, but on how students choose to engage with the opportunities, values, and direction offered by the university environment. It's the choices we make—day by day—that shape who we become.
We look forward to seeing the freshers thrive in both their academic and extracurricular pursuits! BBA in Finance, 31st Batch: Striking the Perfect Balance – A Huge Success!
