We are excited to share the launch of the book titled "Allometric Models for Forest Biomass and Carbon Estimation in Bangladesh" authored by Professor Mahmood Hossain, PhD, Head of Department of Environmental Studies and Sustainability at ULAB, published by Arannayk Foundation.
The book presents scientifically developed models for accurately estimating forest biomass and carbon stocks in Bangladesh. The book provides an essential resource for researchers, policymakers, and forestry professionals, supporting sustainable forest management, climate change mitigation, carbon accounting, and evidence-based environmental decision-making.
This book synthesizes the theoretical foundations, methodological approaches, and national empirical evidence required to enhance the accuracy, consistency, and transparency of forest biomass and carbon stock estimation in Bangladesh. Reliable biomass estimation is fundamental to forest management planning, yield regulation, restoration assessment, and national climate reporting under frameworks such as MRV, REDD+, and NDCs. Bangladesh has a good number of forest types (such as mangroves, hill forests, Sal forests, plantations, and trees outside forests), so locally validated allometric models are necessary to reduce uncertainty and avoid bias in carbon estimates. This work traces the evolution of allometric model development in Bangladesh, clarifies key concepts in biomass allometry, and provides structured guidance on field and laboratory methods, model construction, validation procedures, and uncertainty assessment. A major contribution of this work is the consolidation of nationally validated equations for volume, biomass, carbon, and related attributes, offering a practical and authoritative reference for researchers, students, forest inventory teams, and policy practitioners.
