We are pleased to share that our latest research paper has received widespread coverage across all major national news outlets in Bangladesh. To showcase this extensive media response, we have compiled the highlighted reports into the following short video.

​Led by Dr Shakhaoat Hossain at the , , our study reveals the alarming, everyday reality of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) pollution across the country:

​1. It is responsible for an estimated 88,240 premature deaths in Bangladesh each year — a devastating figure that translates to roughly 242 preventable deaths every single day.
2. Beyond the human cost, the crisis inflicts an estimated annual economic loss of nearly $23 billion (approximately Tk 2.8 lakh crore), heavily draining healthcare resources and national productivity.

​This research underscores that clean air is not merely an environmental concern, but a critical public health and economic priority that demands immediate, sustained policy action.

বায়ুদূষণকে দেশের অন্যতম বড় জনস্বাস্থ্য ও অর্থনৈতিক সংকট হিসেবে চিহ্নিত করেছে জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (জাবি) এক গবেষণা। গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে, সূক্ষ্ম বস্তুকণা (পিএম ২.৫) দূষণের কারণে দেশের ছয়টি প্রধান শহরে প্রতিদিন গড়ে প্রায় ২৪২ জন মানুষের অকালমৃত্যু হচ্ছে। একই কারণে বছরে প্রায় ২৩ বিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলার (বাংলাদেশি মুদ্রায় প্রায় ২ লাখ ৮০ হাজার কোটি টাকা) অর্থনৈতিক ক্ষতি হচ্ছে, যা দেশের মোট দেশজ উৎপাদনের (জিডিপি) প্রায় ৫ শতাংশের সমান।
গবেষণাটি পরিচালনা করেছে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পাবলিক হেলথ অ্যান্ড ইনফরমেটিক্স বিভাগের ক্লাইমেট চেঞ্জ, এয়ার কোয়ালিটি অ্যান্ড হেলথ রিসার্চ ইউনিট। গবেষণা দলের নেতৃত্ব দেন বিভাগের চেয়ারম্যান ও সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. মো. সাখাওয়াত হোসেন। গবেষণাপত্রটি ‘Pollution’ নামে আন্তর্জাতিক জার্নালে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে।
