**A Milestone for the MSc in Data Science Program at SUST**

Almost a year ago, in September 2025, we started our journey with the 1st Batch of the MSc in Data Science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), offered through a collaborative effort of the Department of Statistics, Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), and Department of Mathematics (MAT).

Today, we are delighted to share that the 1st Batch has successfully completed all final examinations, concluding with their final project presentations.

It has been a smooth, challenging, and rewarding journey. The dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment demonstrated by our students throughout the program have been truly inspiring. We are proud of their progress and achievements.

This milestone would not have been possible without the collective efforts and support of many people. We sincerely express our gratitude to all faculty members, teachers, teaching assistants (TAs), administrative staff, and the university authorities who supported us throughout the development, approval, implementation, and successful continuation of this program.

Our special thanks go to the higher authorities of SUST and all concerned academic bodies for their valuable support in developing and approving the program and facilitating its journey from an idea to a successful academic program.

🌱 One batch completed, many more journeys to come.

SUST-এ MSc in Data Science প্রোগ্রামের ১ম ব্যাচের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মাইলফলক

প্রায় এক বছর আগে, সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৫-এ শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে (SUST) Statistics, Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) এবং Mathematics (MAT) বিভাগের যৌথ উদ্যোগে MSc in Data Science প্রোগ্রামের ১ম ব্যাচের যাত্রা শুরু হয়েছিল।

আজ অত্যন্ত আনন্দের সঙ্গে জানাচ্ছি যে, ১ম ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের সকল চূড়ান্ত পরীক্ষা সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন করেছে এবং আজ তাদের Final Project Presentation-এর মাধ্যমে পরীক্ষার আনুষ্ঠানিক সমাপ্তি হয়েছে।

এই যাত্রাটি ছিল অত্যন্ত সুন্দর, চ্যালেঞ্জিং এবং অভিজ্ঞতাসমৃদ্ধ। পুরো প্রোগ্রামজুড়ে আমাদের শিক্ষার্থীদের নিষ্ঠা, আগ্রহ, পরিশ্রম ও একাগ্রতা সত্যিই প্রশংসনীয়। তাদের এই অগ্রযাত্রায় আমরা গর্বিত।

এই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মাইলফলক অর্জনের পেছনে যাঁদের অবদান রয়েছে, তাঁদের সকলের প্রতি আমরা আন্তরিক কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছি। বিশেষভাবে ধন্যবাদ জানাই সকল শিক্ষক, Teaching Assistant (TA), প্রশাসনিক কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষকে, যাঁরা এই প্রোগ্রামটি পরিকল্পনা, উন্নয়ন, অনুমোদন ও বাস্তবায়নের প্রতিটি ধাপে সহযোগিতা করেছেন।

প্রোগ্রামটি একটি ধারণা থেকে একটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ একাডেমিক প্রোগ্রামে রূপান্তরিত করা এবং সফলভাবে পরিচালনার ক্ষেত্রে SUST-এর সম্মানিত কর্তৃপক্ষ ও সংশ্লিষ্ট সকল একাডেমিক কমিটি/কর্তৃপক্ষের মূল্যবান সহযোগিতার জন্য আমরা আন্তরিকভাবে কৃতজ্ঞ।

একটি ব্যাচের সফল সমাপ্তি—আগামীর আরও অনেক পথচলার সূচনা।

🎓 Orientation Program Successfully Held

MSc in Data Science (Professional) Program
Session 2025–26 (2nd Batch)

The Department of Statistics, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), successfully organized the Orientation Program for the 2nd Batch of the MSc in Data Science (Professional) Program (Session 2025–26) on 1 July 2026.

The program was graced by Professor Dr. Md Khairul Islam, Honorable Vice Chancellor, SUST, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished guests included Professor Dr. Md Ismail Hossain, Honorable Treasurer, SUST; Professor Md Ahmed Kabir Chowdhury, Dean, School of Physical Sciences, SUST; Professor Dr. Md. Forhad Rabbi, Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering; and Professor Dr. Md Ashraf Uddin, Head, Department of Mathematics. The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Md Azizul Baten, Head, Department of Statistics, SUST.

The welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr. Md Zakir Hossain, who outlined the vision and objectives of the program. He highlighted that the curriculum has been carefully designed by incorporating the latest and industry-relevant content to equip students with contemporary knowledge and practical skills. He also mentioned that the courses will be conducted by highly experienced faculty members of SUST. Furthermore, he announced the introduction of the Teaching Assistant (TA) concept for the first time in this program to provide enhanced academic support which is creating a more interactive learning environment.

In his inspiring speech, Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Khairul Islam Sir encouraged the students to make the best use of the knowledge gained through this program and establish themselves both nationally and internationally. He described the Department of Statistics as one of the finest departments of SUST and emphasized that this prestigious program offers an excellent opportunity for academic and professional growth. He also assured that the university administration would continue to provide every possible support for the successful implementation and future expansion of the program.

Honorable Treasurer Professor Dr. Md Ismail Hossain Sir emphasized the growing importance of multidisciplinary education. He remarked that this collaborative initiative of the Departments of Statistics, Computer Science & Engineering, and Mathematics will create a vibrant knowledge hub involving faculty members and students. He expressed his confidence that graduates of the program will be well-prepared to excel in the rapidly evolving national and international job markets.

Professor Md Ahmed Kabir Chowdhury Sir, Dean, School of Physical Sciences, highlighted the rapidly increasing importance of Statistics and Data Science in today's world. Referring to emerging technologies such as Quantum Computing, he emphasized that students should prepare themselves with the knowledge and skills required to meet both present and future challenges. He noted that the curriculum of this program has been designed with these evolving needs in mind.

Professor Dr. Md. Forhad Rabbi Sir, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, and Professor Dr. Md Ashraf Uddin Sir, Head of the Department of Mathematics, also addressed the audience and encouraged the newly admitted students to take full advantage of the multidisciplinary nature of the program and actively engage in their academic journey.

In his concluding remarks, Professor Dr. Md Azizul Baten Sir expressed his sincere gratitude to all the distinguished guests, faculty members, and students for their participation. He congratulated the newly admitted students, wished them every success in their academic journey, and expressed his hope that the MSc in Data Science (Professional) Program would continue to flourish as a center of excellence in Data Science education and research.

The Department of Statistics warmly welcomes the new cohort and wishes them a successful, enriching, and rewarding journey in the exciting world of Data Science.
