Gather | Build | Celebrate was a hands-on workshop held at the Srihatta Samdani Art Foundation on January 9–10, 2026, organized by Samdani Art Foundation and Aronnyojon, with support from the British Council. Curated by Architect Rizvi Hassan, Khwaja Fatmi, and Team Aronnyojon, the workshop brought together locals, artisans, students, teachers, and practitioners from various disciplines to learn through an ongoing building process.

Students from the third, fourth year of Leading University, along with students from SUST, actively participated in the workshop. The program focused on community-based design, use of natural materials, and learning from traditional artisanship. Students gained first-hand experience in working with mud, cement blocks, bamboo, and pattern-making, while observing how artisans interpret and respond to space.
The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion involving architects, teachers, and researchers on the changing nature of rural communities and the role of architects in preserving cultural identity. The students were guided by their teacher Sadia Sabrin Tarannum.

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of one of our very own Alumni Tasnia Siddique Chowdhury, a contributing author and team member of FORM.3 Architects, whose project “Conservation of Old Dhaka Central Jail History, Historical Buildings & Development of Surrounding Area” has won the Holcim Foundation Award 2025, Grand Prize for the Asia Pacific Region, the world’s most prestigious recognition for sustainable design.

This landmark project was originally selected through a national open design competition in 2017, organized by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh, the Institute of Planners, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, GoB.

Rooted in the extraordinary history of the Old Dhaka Central Jail, once a pre-Mughal fort, later transformed into a jail in 1788 and operating until 2016, the project honors 228 years of layered political and cultural memory. The site’s conservation and transformation reflect a profound respect for heritage, community, and resilient urban futures.

The FORM.3 Architects team has envisioned a vibrant public realm with open spaces, civic amenities, restored waterbodies, parks, walkways, cultural and community facilities, and carefully conserved historic buildings, all within one of the densest neighborhoods in the world. Their work stands as an inspiring model of sensitive heritage preservation and visionary city-making.

Congratulations to Tasnia Siddique Chowdhury and the entire FORM.3 team for this remarkable global recognition!
Your contribution continues to make us proud and reflects the excellence, commitment, and impact our community strives for.
