UGent FEB Students,

Maybe you’re already thinking about the elective courses you’d like add to your curriculum next year?
Maybe you’re itching to get a stamp in your international passport?
Maybe you’re interested in visiting renowned international companies behind the scenes?
Maybe you’d like to meet some fellow students (and future best friends) during fun teambuilding activities?
Or maybe you heard through the grapevine from past participants that they had a blast singing with their teachers in a karaoke bar?

Whatever your reason, the FEB “NY-LON” project is here to help. During the first week of the academic year 2024-2025 we will organize an info session to tell you more about the trips.

Happy learning :)

We visited the Fordham University Gabelli School of Business today. Exploring ideas from staff and student mobility to online collaborative learning and summer exchange programs was enriching. We hope a photo of Belgium can be added to their impressive gallery soon. To be continued…

Mara de Koningde Koning, your supervisor emphasized how agile you have been during your internship at Wafels & Dinges. We enjoyed visiting the facilities, tasting a waffle, and hearing about your progress! Thank you, Thomas DeGeest!

During our academic mission to New York, we also made time to visit our Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde UGent students performing their interships at ShowTex and BelCham. Dries van Dort and Jarno De Loose, we are proud of you as Ghent University ambassadors. Thomas Van Lokeren and Jeanette Murray Johnson, we are so grateful for believing and investing in them!

Dirk Van den Poel and I wrapped up a very warm day in Manhattan with a session at BelCham for J1 interns about Big Data Analysis and Negotiating Skills. It was inspiring to see such an international group networking and roleplaying… Some more 🤓

But the best part of the day was a lunch with dear friend Sophie Berben. The energy that our meetings provide always has me looking forward to future projects together!

🗽👩🏼‍🎓 Proud to be part of the Ghent University academic mission to New York. Our main objective: point out the indisputable strengths of our university and explore international collaboration opportunities for the Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde UGent.

A special thank you to Alexander Vanryckeghem and United Airlines - EWR, we always love flying with you!

No better way to start the day than with a guided walk through SoHo, Chinatown, and Little Italy. This seemed like a different world with the cast-iron facades, the authentic Chinese foodstores, and the Italian restaurants linked to mafia stories from the movies.

One of our favorite annual visits brought us back to Goldman Sachs where MD Daan Struyven always has our students hanging from his lips. His passionate presentation about global economic research and predictions inspired our students to put Ghent University’s motto into practice: Dare to Think! We are so proud of the many interesting questions they've been asking the entire week!

Business students would not be business students if they didn’t explore Wall Street and pretend to be wolves for a day. Our guides from The Wall Street Experience talked about the NY Stock Exchange, terrorist attacks, the collapse of renowned banks, the fearless girl and the raging bull, and the role of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Time to pay our respect to the victims of the terrorist attacks at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, which provides a deeper understanding of the day’s events and its aftermath through artefacts and tragic yet heroic stories.

Not your average tourist stop, but we also paid a visit to the Manhattan Criminal Night Court, handling over 100.000 arrests per year within 24 hours of the crime! The judge even stepped into the courtroom to answer our questions about American jurisdiction. Our law professor Bertel De Groote enjoyed every minute. When I asked previous students how they felt about this real-life drama as excursion in the trip, they simply answered: “It’s not because it’s not comfortable to watch, that it’s not interesting to see.”

Our home away from home is Jack Demsey’s bar, where we were accommodated on a private floor with TV screens for a hearty Irish meal and our famous Quiz Night. Huge hugs to Martina Gaine for her annual kindness for our students.

A special thank you to all our generous partners!
