LPS in beweging!

Als team activiteit nam ons labo met eigen ontworpen sportshirt deel aan de University Trail. Met originele teamnamen in thema verdeelden we ons in de 'Radical Runners' en de 'Chain Walkers'. Al lopend of wandelend bereikten we na 5 sportieve kilometers de finish. Onderweg doorkruisten we verschillende gebouwen van KU Leuven.

🌍 Op maandag 1 en dinsdag 2 september hadden Thomas, Cynthia en Janine de unieke kans om deel te nemen aan de 16de editie van het Japan-Belgium Symposium on Polymer Science. Tijdens dit internationale symposium kwamen ze in contact met toonaangevende professoren uit de polymeerwereld en lieten ze zich inspireren door boeiende lezingen en discussies.
📌 Thomas en Cynthia presenteerden hun onderzoek via een poster, terwijl Janine een lezing gaf over haar doctoraatsonderwerp. Het symposium bood niet alleen waardevolle inzichten, maar ook nieuwe perspectieven en connecties binnen het vakgebied.
Een leerrijke en motiverende ervaring voor ons team!

🌍 On Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd of September, Thomas, Cynthia, and Janine had the unique opportunity to attend the 16th edition of the Japan-Belgium Symposium on Polymer Science. This international event brought together leading professors in the field of polymer science, offering inspiring lectures and engaging discussions.
📌 Thomas and Cynthia presented their research through a poster, while Janine gave a talk on her PhD topic. The symposium provided valuable insights, fresh perspectives, and meaningful connections within the polymer community.
A truly enriching and motivating experience for our team!

Op 26 en 27 mei was LPS aanwezig op de jaarlijkse Belgian Polymer Group (BPG) congerentie, dit jaar georganiseerd in Houffalize.
We combineerden het congres met een geslaagde teambuilding in Namen, waar we de stad ontdekten.
Tijdens de BPG kregen al onze teamleden de kans om hun onderzoek te presenteren via een poster. Met trots kunnen we zeggen dat Robin werd bekroond met de prijs voor beste poster - een mooie afsluiter van een inspirerende tweedaagse. Proficiat, Robin! 🏅👏

Op woensdag 14 mei verdedigde Siebe met succes zijn doctoraat tijdens een publieke verdediging. Een mooie afsluiting van een intensief traject! Hij behaalde hiermee de graad van doctor in de chemie. Gefeliciteerd met het behalen van deze titel, Siebe!

On Wednesday, May 14, Siebe successfully defended his PhD during a public defense — a great conclusion to an intensive journey! With this, he earned the title of Doctor of Chemistry. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement, Siebe!

Gisteravond vond de publieke verdediging van Annelien haar doctoraat plaats. Ze behaalde hiermee de graad van doctor in chemie. Proficiat met je PhD, Annelien!

Last night, it was Annelien’s public defense of her PhD. She obtained the degree of doctor in chemistry. Congratulations with this title, Annelien!

• 2024 •

With the end of the year in sight, we look back at all the highlights of a successful year in our lab! Every week of december we show some of the achievements and activities of 2024.

• Marie, Cynthia, Wout, Trijntje and Janine participated in Science4Fun in May. This initiative introduces kids to science with an array of experiments. The kids got the chance to draw their own nylon thread, generate a current using potatoes or make their own slime!

• In November, we attended a first aid course. The department of Medicine at KU Leuven organized ReanimAid. During this session, Trijntje, Cynthia, Janine, Robin & Thomas learned to perform essential CPR techniques to use in case of an emergency.

• Our annual Christmas dinner was held at Cum Laude, where the evening revolved around delicious food. We were treated to a festive menu that made the celebration truly special.

We would like to wish everyone a joyful Christmas time and all the best wishes for the new year ahead. We are already looking forward to a new year filled with exciting scientific experiences.

• Thomas & Janine defended their research topic with an interview for FWO in September. They were both rewarded an FWO funding for the next 4 years!

The members of LPS visited some congresses:

• In May, we visited the 30th edition of the annual BPG congress in Blankenberge. Siebe, Robin and Cynthia presented their work with a poster. Wout gave a lecture about his research of the passed years.
🏆Siebe won the price for best poster! Congratulations!

• Robin travelled to Prague for EuroMembrane in September with the group of Prof. Vankelekom. He presented his research with a poster and he had a chance to network with scientists in the membrane field. Next to working, they had the chance to visit the beautiful city during their free time.
