Fun Friday // What a beauty 🤩
*
With this edited book comes a small personal milestone. I just realized that I have now published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
*
To be honest, I hesitated to share this information, because numbers have never been what motivate my work… What this milestone represents to me is something much bigger. It represents hundreds of conversations with newcomer youth and families, students, community partners, as well as colleagues who trusted me with their stories. It represents countless hours of writing, revising, questioning, and learning. It represents students whose ideas challenged my own, mentors who opened doors for me, and collaborators who reminded me that the best research is never done alone. Most importantly, it represents a commitment to using research not as an endpoint, but as a means of creating more equitable, compassionate, and responsive systems.
*
One hundred publications is not the destination - It is simply a reminder of how grateful I am to do work that continues to teach me every day. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, including our publisher Cognella 🤍

Mental Health Monday // In the past ten days, four graduate students from the Vividhatà Research Group successfully defending their thesis and dissertations 🎉

Watching students grow into independent scholars is one of the greatest privileges of academic life. Congratulations to each of you on this remarkable milestone Linnea Kalchos Harris Wong Cheryl Wan Yasmin Elliott 😊

So proud of you all 💜

Mental Health Monday // As Calgarians, we’re used to celebrating sunshine. But these unexpected days of rain have had me thinking.

In many traditions, including the one I grew up with, rain is not seen as an inconvenience. It is seen as renewal: A blessing. A reminder that growth often begins long before we can see it.

Perhaps our mental health is similar. The moments that nourish us are not always the brightest or the easiest. Sometimes they are quieter, slower, and less comfortable.

Just because today feels cloudy doesn’t mean nothing is growing. Sometimes, the rain is doing work we cannot yet see. 🌧️🤍

Mental Health Monday // Some seasons are meant for carrying…

Burnout is often framed as a signal that we need to stop. But sometimes life does not afford us that option.

As I reflect on how run down I feel today, I find myself thinking less about balance and more about sustainability.

Not every season is meant for rest. Some seasons are meant for carrying… The challenge is figuring out how to carry what matters without losing myself in the process.

That is the work I am navigating right now - and on the plus side, my week is filled with many scholarly activities that I enjoy! (I just took on too many 🫠)

Mental Health Monday //

To truly support clients in meaningful and lasting change, we must also transform psychology training programs and the institutions in which they are embedded.

While many efforts centred on equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization risk becoming performative, meaningful systemic and structural change is necessary if we want to move beyond helping people merely cope and survive - toward helping individuals and communities thrive and flourish 🌸

Mental Health Monday // An extra day can feel like pressure to do something extraordinary, but today, the gift of time is enough…

It was a slower morning and now I get to do a bit of everything:
- Catching up on light administrative tasks.
- Juggling laundry and dusting and cooking.
- Creating space for the week ahead.

Not every form of productivity needs to be exhausting to be meaningful. Sometimes, easing future stress is its own form of self-care.

Have a great day 💫

Mental Health Monday // There were a hundred things I could have done this morning. Emails to answer. Work to catch up on. Tasks waiting for me.

But today, I chose to put myself first — trusting that my future self will thank my current self for slowing down, breathing deeply, and remembering that rest and wellbeing are productive too 💪🏽

Now, back to work 🤓😅
