Congratulations to Ahmed Abdel-Dayem, 2nd year Computer Science Student for placing 3rd out of 56 at the 2026 Canadian Astroparticle Physics Summer Student Talk (CASST) 2026! What a great achievement!

Meet Ahmed! This summer, Ahmed worked in our IT department on the modernization of the auditorium control system and collaboration infrastructure at SNOLAB. Ahmed says: “My favourite experience was presenting my summer project at CASST 2026 and placing 3rd overall out of 56 contributions. It was especially rewarding to share a project that had grown from troubleshooting a legacy system into helping shape the future of one of SNOLAB’s main collaboration spaces.”

Ahmed is returning to Laurentian University - Université Laurentienne this fall for the third year of his Bachelor of Computer Science degree.

The Laurentian University Robotics Team (SnoBots) brought home a sweep of international titles. and event records from the 2026 Federation of International Robot-sports Association (FIRA) RoboWorld Cup, held July 17 to 21 in Markham, Ontario.

Congratulations to our Snobots team at the 2026 FIRA Roboworld Cup in Markham ON who took home trophies in all 4 categories that they competed in:
🥇 1st place - Autonomous Cars
🥇 1st place - Jr. (U19) Kid humanoid
🥈 2nd place - Pro Kid Humanoid
🥉 3rd place - Adult Humanoid

The Autonomous Car team also received a few best competition records!

The Young Mining Professionals Scholarship Fund (‘YMPSF’) was established to help fund and promote mining and mining-related education to Canada’s next-generation mining entrepreneurs.

Applications are open for students who are currently enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a mining-related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution. The program can be at the undergraduate or graduate level. The deadline for applications is October 1st, 2026.
