The Franz Boas Papers: Documentary Edition is major new research initiative that reassesses and re-contextualizes the papers of preeminent anthropologist Franz Boas. Project Director Regna Darnell has assembled an international, interdisciplinary team that reflects the diversity of Boas’ interests. This documentary edition will highlight the importance of Boas’ fieldwork on Baffin Island and the N

orthwest Coast while also serving as comprehensive and essential resource for Boas researchers. Partners include the American Philosophical Society, which holds the majority of Boas’ papers, the University of Nebraska Press, the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw Tribal Council, the University of Western Ontario and the University of Victoria as well as scholars and student researchers based in Canada, the United States and Europe. We welcome feedback and suggestions from Indigenous and non-indigenous scholars, organizations and communities to ensure that publications and resources concerning the Franz Boas Papers will be accessible, useful and relevant.
