HELLO again to our UTMBD members! 🤗 This month we will be discussing a book YOU GUYS voted on—— I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy! 🥳🥳

This book is a memoir detailing the life of Jennette McCurdy. It presents her career as a child actress through her relationship with her abusive mother, to where she is currently after her mother died in 2013. 👀👀

The meeting will be on March 28th from 6-8 PM in DH2070 and on Zoom! The zoom link along with a free downloadable copy of the book will be sent out soon! Please DM us for the links if you do not receive it through our mailing list! 🤠

The Historical Studies Society, Language Studies Academic Society, UTM Boss Women, Italian Students Association, UTM Scribes, and UTM Book Discovery are hosting a charity book sale! Come buy discounted books for just $1-$3! All money donated will go to Indspire, an organization that provides resources and education to Indigenous peoples in Canada.

We will be hosting the sale on February 27th 10AM - 1PM and February 28th 11AM - 1PM in the Student Centre! Come by to get some low-priced books while also contributing to a good cause!

Happy midterm season to our UTMBD members! 📚 We hope your studies are going well and that you're taking care of yourself during this stressful time!

To de-stress this month, we'll be discussing Omar El Akkad's What Strange Paradise! 🌅

The novel follows Amir, a nine-year-old boy who survives the passage of a sinking refugee boat on the Greek island of Kos. He meets Vanna, a teenage girl living on the island who saves Amir despite the fact that they are strangers battling a language barrier. The story exemplifies the conflict between maintaining hope while living in despair and the empathy that comes from two children navigating a hostile world.

The meeting will be on February 28th from 6-7pm in DH 2070 and on zoom! Please DM us if any of you require the link for the book in case you did not receive it from the email! We hope to see you there and good luck! ✊🏼

Hello UTM!! Looking to join a club this semester? Have a passion for graphic design? Then UTMBD has the perfect position for you! We are expanding our executive team to welcome new advertising directors. As the UTMBD advertising director you will be designing posts about upcoming book meetings along with other announcements. You will also be managing the club Instagram account and other social media, maximizing our outreach. You will be dividing up the responsibilities with another advertising director, so don’t worry about the workload! If this seems like an interesting position to you then make sure to fill out the application form by Friday January 20 11:59 PM.

Welcome to October!!! 🍂 As the leaves are falling we are starting our second book of the year! 📖 This month we will be reading The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. The book follows the story of a woman named Alicia who murders her husband and then never speaks another word. 🖌Criminal psychotherapist Theo Fabre hopes to treat Alicia and uncover the mystery behind her motives for killing her husband.👀

We will be discussing The Silent Patient on Monday, October 24 from 7 pm -8 pm in person 🏫(room details will be sent out closer to the meeting date) as well as on Zoom!! 💻
