🌎⚽ The 2026 FIFA World Cup was the biggest World Cup in history — but how sustainable was it?

From reusing infrastructure and investing in renewable energy to restoring natural spaces and reducing food waste, the tournament made sustainability a key focus. 🌱

But its unprecedented scale also created major environmental challenges. With 48 teams, 104 matches, 16 host cities, and three countries, the tournament’s massive geographic footprint, fan travel, emissions, and construction demands raised important questions about whether sustainability goals can truly keep pace with the growth of mega-events.

Swipe through to explore what the World Cup did well — and where there was still room for improvement. ➡️
