France Stohner is a Philippine-born, Montreal-raised diasporic community organizer and mental health counsellor. As an uninvited settler immigrant on Turtle Island, she is committed to decolonization and spent her undergraduate years at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute. In her early career, France worked in the non-profit sector for an organization focused on urban development for women's safety i

n cities. She then pursued a Masters of Arts degree in Counselling and Spirituality, specializing in Women’s Studies, a collaborative program between the universities of Ottawa and Saint Paul. From 2011 to 2016, she was a radio host and content creator for Sigaw Ng Bayan on CKUT 90.3FM. As co-lead organizer for the Pinay Power II (McGill University 2019) and Filipino-Canadian Futures (Concordia University 2019) conferences, and as member of the Advisory Council for Kabanka and Pinoys on Parliament, she strives to highlight the importance of community dialogue and uplifting Filipino/a/x/s voices. Since the pandemic, she has been a Restorative Circle Keeper and creating brave spaces for racialized women and youth to work towards more emotional and spiritual strength and growth. In order to maintain connections to her Motherland, France is also a community coordinator for Inday Dolls, a program bringing art initiatives to incarcerated women at the IloIlo City District Jail in Panay Islands. In her day-to-day, France is a Student Advocate and on the Sexual Violence Response Team at a post-secondary institution.

Still processing the incredible experience of meeting Kimberlé Crenshaw last week while she was in Montreal for the World Forum on Intersections. A brilliant thinker, educator, and activist whose work has deeply shaped the way we understand justice, identity, and power. Crenshaw is a legal scholar best known for developing the theory of intersectionality, a framework that reveals how overlapping systems of oppression impact marginalized communities. Her contributions have been foundational to my personal values and development, and greatly influenced how I move through the world. Her words were not only insightful, but also a powerful reminder of the ongoing work needed to center the voices most impacted by oppression. Feeling honored, inspired, and energized. 🖤✨

As Filipino Heritage Month opens we at want to take this moment to honour someone whose legacy continues to shape our community: Paulina Corpuz.

It is because of her vision, persistence, and love for the Filipino people that Filipino Heritage Month exists in Canada — a time and space where our histories, cultures, and contributions are recognized and celebrated.

We extend our deepest gratitude and love to her spirit, her family, and the community she uplifted. Her impact lives on in every celebration, every gathering, and every young Filipino who sees themselves reflected in our stories.

To all the Titas, Ates, Ninangs, Inays and Nanays who may feel like a grain of sand in the vastness of this country — know that you move mountains. You carry generations. You are the quiet architects of change, the embodiment of Kapwa, and the heart of our communities.

On May 1, we bring together FCSCWN members and organizers in our relational networks in response to the tragedy at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver.

We welcome folks to share updates about what’s happening in their local context, workplace, organization, grassroots group, and/or region. We encourage folks to name specific or emerging needs and requests.

Le 31 mars, j’ai eu le grand honneur de recevoir le Prix de la relève de la SARC. La Semaine d’actions contre le racisme a été créée en 1999 pour célébrer la Journée internationale pour l’élimination de la discrimination raciale, qui a été proclamée par l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies en 1966. La SACR coordonne une multitude d’activités visant à lutter contre les différentes formes d’intolérance qui existent dans notre société et à promouvoir l’égalité des chances pour tous. Ces activités visent à sensibiliser les gens, à encourager la participation communautaire, à promouvoir la diversité culturelle et à encourager la discussion et la réflexion sur les enjeux liés au racisme.

Merci à Franz Voltaire, Samira Laouni, et toute l’équipe de la SARC pour leur passion et dévouement dans ce travail important. Merci a mes collègues de CDN NDG de m’avoir fait la surprise. Merci à la communauté du Centre Kapwa pour la confiance de me soutenir dans mes idées folles. Que la lutte continue!

On March 31, I had the great honor of receiving SARC’s Next Generation Award. Action Week Against Racism was created in 1999 to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. The SARC coordinates a multitude of activities aimed at combating the various forms of intolerance that exist in our society and promoting equal opportunities for all. These activities aim to raise awareness, encourage community participation, promote cultural diversity and encourage discussion and reflection on issues related to racism.

Thank you to Franz Voltaire, Samira Laouni, and the entire SARC team for their passion and dedication to this important work. Thank you to my colleagues at CDN NDG for surprising me. Thank you to the Centre Kapwa community for trusting me and supporting my crazy ideas. May the struggle continue!

I am thrilled to share that I will be Master of Ceremony for the Third Annual Social Justice Summit hosted by the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians. This year’s theme, « Solidarity Over Saviourism: Feminism Centering Racialized and Indigenous Women, » will feature thought-provoking discussions led by activists, scholars, and community leaders.

The event will feature an inspiring keynote address by Ketty Nivyabandi, Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada, alongside panels on decolonizing feminist narratives, allyship in political unrest, and unlearning toxic masculinity within South Asian communities.

This is an incredible opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, network with likeminded individuals, and contribute to a movement that prioritizes justice, equity, and intersectional feminism. Thank you Executive Director, Samya Hasan, for trusting me with this meaningful task, and gratitude to the wonderful team of organizers. I’m so honoured to be able to introduce such inspiring individuals!

I had the pleasure to kickoff this year’s Black History Month at the 4th National Black Canadians Summit. The Summit is more than just an event. It’s a platform for dialogue and exchange, where Black Canadian’s celebrate successes and share winning strategies. It is the perfect opportunity to discover inspiring local and national projects, explore initiatives that work, and participate in enriching discussions. With the goal build a more equitable and inclusive society. Extending gratitude to all the wonderful people I had the privilege to share space with.

Hello? Is this thing still on?
It’s not too late for a year in review, right?

2024 presented me with challenges in all aspects of life which made me quiet on social media, while loud in movement, growth, and expansion. I did my best to trust, surrender, and always practice gratitude. Sharing here some professional highlights that humbled me. There were also many more that just didn’t fit in this post. Thank you to everyone who sent love my way, and who granted me grace and patience during a year of intense lessons and major shifts. Excited for what 2025 has to bring… Let’s go!
