Marianopolis Mathematics teacher Jean-François Deslandes was recognized by Alliance Sport-Études for his support of student-athletes who balance demanding competition schedules with their studies.

Professor Deslandes was nominated for the distinction by Clémence Beaudoin, a Health Science student and track and field athlete. The nomination was part of Tag ton Prof, Alliance Sport-Études’ annual recognition of instructors across Quebec.

Clémence describes Professor Deslandes as an exceptional mentor who is well known throughout the Marianopolis community for his kindness, involvement, and positive influence on students. She notes that his guidance has extended beyond the classroom, helping her navigate both her academic path and future university options in athletics.

Professor Deslandes was profoundly touched by the recognition and Clémence’s kind words. He noted that, as a high-level student-athlete, she had chosen a path that demands significant sacrifice and resilience. He said he was confident that her discipline, commitment, and ability to navigate both setbacks and successes would shape her into an engaged and capable leader.

“Thank you, Clémence, for this wonderful recognition. I am happy to have had a positive impact on your journey, even if it was only a small measure of encouragement, listening, or empathy.”

The College thanks Alliance Sport-Études for its support of student-athletes and for highlighting the work of teachers who contribute to their success.

Social Science Week comes to a close today!

Over the past week, faculty, alumni, and members of the community led a series of activities and events exploring how the social sciences engage with a broad range of issues.

The week opened with a vernissage of the 2026 Social Science Photography Competition.

On Tuesday, students took part in a Q&A with Marianopolis graduate Anita Nowak, PhD, on empathy as a tool in the workplace.

On Wednesday, alumni from a range of Social Science and Commerce fields shared how setbacks and challenges helped shape their paths at Fail Forward Night.

The week concluded with a screening of Shining Light, a documentary following a mother and daughter from war-torn Vietnam as they build a new life in Canada.

Through these events, students explored potential career paths, connected classroom theory with real-world practice, and developed leadership and community-building skills.

Thank you to all who helped make this week possible.

Four Marianopolis teams will be competing at the Montreal Regional Science and Technology Fair hosted at Laval Senior Academy from Sunday, March 29 to Tuesday, March 31.

This year’s teams are presenting a wide range of research projects that reflect the depth and diversity of scientific inquiry at Marianopolis. From health sciences to artificial intelligence and physics, their work highlights strong analytical thinking and real-world applications.

Sophie Iny’s research looks at how a rare neurological condition that affects balance and coordination progresses over time, and explores whether an existing medication could help improve symptoms.

Josh Guan and Jason Jichen Li are investigating how sound waves can be used to suspend and measure tiny objects without touching them, developing a new kind of contactless microbalance.

Bill Xu and Kuan Yi Wang are exploring how artificial intelligence can improve error correction in quantum computing, helping make these powerful systems more reliable as they scale.

Lucas Zhu has developed an AI-based system that can detect malaria from blood samples, showing how technology can support faster and more accessible diagnosis in low-resource settings.

Members of the public are invited to support Marianopolis participants by attending the public viewing portion of the fair on Sunday and Monday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

We wish all four teams much success as they present their work.
