The School of Hospitality + Tourism is based on the traditional territory of the Sinixt, the Syilx, the Ktunaxa and the Secwépemc in the beautiful mountain town of Nelson, BC. We have 4 fantastic programs to choose from:

-Resort and Hotel Management Diploma (RHOT)
-Post Graduate Hospitality Diploma (PGHM - International student program)
-Post Graduate Culinary Diploma (PGCM - International student program)
-Culinary Management (CULM - ITA Prof. Cook Level 1&2 w/ management courses)

Celebrating the harvest season and another successful Scholar’s service! 🍁🍂

We partnered with local legends Linden Lane Farms to offer our guests a truly place-based, family style Harvest Menu. We also featured beautiful ingredients from Treasure Life Flour Mills Ltd and - both operating in Creston, BC.

And we’re back!

Last night was our first Scholar’s Dining Room service of the year and the students did an incredible job - just look at those food pics! 🤤 This is our Family Style Tapas and Pinxtos Menu. As always, we are featuring local, ethically sourced ingredients.

Scholar’s service looks a bit different this year due to changes in study visas impacting our hospitality programs, but our intrepid Professional Cook students have stepped in to help with service (alongside some experienced Scholar’s alumni servers!💫).

It went so well that we even got a “best dinner ever” from one of our lovely guests - thank you! 💕

The Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce was pleased to welcome first-year students in Selkirk College's Ski Resort Operations & Management (SROAM) Program to The Station on Tuesday morning for a field trip where the class had a chance to learn more about the Nelson Visitor Centre and destination marketing.

Visitor Centre manager Mindy Fair, Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism executive director Peter Moynes and the Chamber communications coordinator Bob Hall spent time with the class where they provided an overview and answered questions. The group then explored the Visitor Information Centre itself where instructors provided some hands-on assignments.

Regional post-secondary is vital to our region’s economy and success in the future. The SROAM Program is a foundational offering at Selkirk College, the only one of its kind in Canada that helps provide the skills and training for the future leaders in the outdoor industry.

Introducing Semester 5 of our new Tourism and Destination Management Diploma!

A 2-year diploma 🎓 with 5 themed semesters that thoughtfully guide learners through the concept of Tourism and Destination Management.

In their 5th, and final, semester of the program students will be ready to make their mark on the industry!

Learners will contribute a self-directed capstone project of their choice which could be the beginning of their own business venture or start a long-lasting partnership with an industry provider. They will host a large scale event, working with a client to meet their needs. They will also deep dive in Human Resources, business forecasting, and liability to fully round out their industry skill set and leave them ready for the professional world.

Graduates of TADM could pursue career pathways in tourism marketing, event planning, entrepreneurship, adventure tourism, human resources, hospitality management and much more.

It is always such an honour to celebrate our students and all they’ve achieved throughout their time in our classrooms.

We build deep bonds with the people who come through our doors. Every laugh we share, challenge we navigate, and success we cheer strengthens that connection. We become a bit more like family by the time graduation comes around - which makes it harder to say goodbye, but makes us so excited to hear about their adventures when we see them again. ❤️

In semester 4, students combine their education and experience into action! Taking what they’ve learned in their first year courses and their work practicum, they will begin to apply their knowledge into real-world challenges such as building a business plan, running events and working through case studies with industry employers.

A 2-year diploma 🎓 with 5 themed semesters that thoughtfully guide learners through the concept of Tourism and Destination Management.

In semester 3, students will dive in and start exploring career pathways through their Work Practicum! Through the program, students will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with industry representative who will offer a clear picture of career pathways. Students can then pursue the employment option that fits them best; gaining valuable experience and reflecting through work integrated learning.
