Capilano University has lowered its flags to half-mast in honour of the four Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives in the tragic incident at CFB Wainwright, Alberta.

Two of those who died, Private Aidan Goulding of North Vancouver and Private Hayden Lykkemark of Langley, were from British Columbia.

CapU is the first university in B.C. to be recognized as a WWF-Canada Living Campus!

The designation recognizes sustainability and conservation initiatives led by EarthWorks, including habitat restoration, native plantings and wildlife education that help our campus community coexist with local black bears.

CapU alum are taking the spotlight at VIFF.

Scarlett Sparrow-Felix—Scarlett’s short film Take Care, will have its world premiere at VIFF. The film follows Hope as she navigates grief and family tensions surrounding her grandmother’s burial. Scarlett will also take part in a Q&A following the screening.

Sophy Romvari—The filmmaker is VIFF’s Leading Lights Guest Programmer, presenting four films that have influenced her work. Her debut feature, Blue Heron, premiered at Locarno in 2025, where it won the Swatch First Feature Award, before its North American premiere at TIFF, where it received the Best Canadian Discovery Award.

Truth & Reconciliation Week at CapU brought our community together for a week of learning, reflection and connection.

We heard from Indigenous artists, performers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, including Brandon Peters, Qyiyek Thunder, Darrel Bob and Theresa Fenton-Bob, Alroy Baker, Gabe George Sr. and Dances with Wolf Gang. We also celebrated Indigenous fashion with designers Sierra William, Jaden and Diera Gutowski, and welcomed Elder Larry Grant, who shared stories behind his book Reconciling: A Lifelong Struggle to Belong.

As we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, we continue to learn and reflect on the ongoing work of reconciliation.

Truth & Reconciliation Week at CapU opened today with Indigenous recording artist and motivational speaker Brandon Peters.

Brandon shared his journey of reconnecting with Indigenous culture, community and tradition through storytelling, lived experience and music, exploring themes of identity, resilience, healing and hope.

A significant gift from the Isabel Bader Charitable Trust is expanding initiatives at CapU that support Indigenous students from recruitment and transition to university through graduation and beyond.

The gift will strengthen culturally grounded supports for Indigenous learners, including student success and cultural workshops, community events, the medicine and food garden, an emergency fund and CapU’s first reconciliation research project.
