The results are in, and they are PAW-some! 🐾✨

We are over the moon to share that the ‘Paws for a Cause’ campaign raised over $7,500 this April for Lakehead’s Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (CDVMP)!

A massive thank you to our partners who stepped up to make this happen:
✅ Jeff Palmer (Pet Valu owner and proud Lakehead Alumnus) for his incredible local leadership.
✅ TD Insurance for their amazing support and participation in this campaign.

And to the customers at Thunder Bay Pet Valu stores: YOU made this happen. Every dollar donated at the till is an investment in the health of our pets, livestock, and communities.

Together, we’re making local vet care a reality.

Big news for our Lakehead community! 🌟

Access to education should be about talent and drive, not the size of your bank account. That’s why we are so incredibly grateful to The Joyce Family Foundation for their $2-million gift to support Lakehead University students!

What this means:

✅ Establishment of The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary.
✅ Three annual bursaries of $22,000 ($5,500/year for four years).
✅ Direct support for students facing financial challenges starting September 2026.

Did you know that 95% of our domestic students face barriers to attending university? This gift helps bridge that gap and ensures that every student has the chance to grow and contribute to their community.

We are also kicking off a 5-year, $10-million campaign to keep this momentum going. Let’s open some doors! 🚪

April 25 is World Veterinary Day- a time to recognize the vital role veterinarians play in keeping our animals, food systems, and communities healthy.

Here in Northern Ontario, that role is more important than ever. Lakehead University’s Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (CDVMP) represents a transformative step forward- training future veterinarians closer to home, addressing regional shortages, and strengthening care for rural and remote communities.

This program isn’t just about education- it’s about access, sustainability, and the future of animal and public health in the North.

Join Dr. Alla Reznik, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Physics of Radiation Medical Imaging at Lakehead University, for a lecture on how ultra-sensitive Positron Emission Tomography (PET) technology is transforming breast cancer detection for women at high risk.
