When young people can see a future for themselves, anything is possible. 💙

Lakehead University is setting its sights on a new $2-million fundraising goal for the Achievement Program, and the Alumni Association of Lakehead University is helping lead the way with a $64,517 commitment to kick-start this next chapter.

The Achievement Program supports equity-deserving youth from Grade 4 through Grade 12, helping them build confidence, discover their potential and see themselves as belonging in a postsecondary environment.

And the impact is already being felt. In 2025–26, the program reached 500 students from 45 schools across six school boards in Northwestern Ontario. Eight Achievement Program graduates have attended Lakehead since 2020, with three more expected to begin their studies this September.

This next $2 million isn't just a fundraising goal. It's an investment in young people, their futures and the communities they will one day help lead.

We're proud to support the Achievement Program and help create more opportunities for the next generation.

We have some incredibly exciting news to share! Vétérinov has officially pledged $50,000 to Lakehead University’s Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (CDVMP).

With veterinary shortages impacting communities across the North, Lakehead’s collaborative program is a game-changer for regional and northern animal care.

From household pets to livestock, the future of animal health depends on exceptional training and support. We are honoured to stand alongside Veterinov to help make that future a reality.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by the wildfires affecting communities across Northwestern Ontario and beyond.

To those who have been forced to leave their homes, those facing uncertainty, and the communities working tirelessly to support one another: we are thinking of you.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters, emergency responders, healthcare professionals, volunteers, Indigenous leadership, and all those answering the call to help. Your courage, compassion, and dedication are making a difference when it is needed most.

The Alumni Association of Lakehead University stands with our alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends during this difficult time. If you are looking for ways to help, please consider:
- Wildfire relief efforts through the Canadian Red Cross or
- emergency pet boarding and pet evacuations Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Northwest Animal Centre .

Please stay safe, look after yourselves and those around you, and continue to follow the guidance of local emergency officials.

Celebrating 46 years of memories, friendship, and Lakehead pride! 🎉✨

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming back the Honours Bachelor of Physical & Health Education (HBPHE) Class of 1980 for a special reunion. From warm greetings and Alumni Association treats to a nostalgic visit at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse, it was a weekend filled with laughter, stories, and new memories made.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. Your energy and spirit remind us what it means to be .

Celebrating a beautiful partnership rooted in compassion! 🐾

Another incredible milestone for the future of veterinary care in the North! The Eric S. Margolis Foundation has reinforced its commitment to Northern Ontario’s future by donating an additional $50,000 to Lakehead University’s Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (CDVMP)—bringing their total support to an incredible $75,000!

The Eric S. Margolis Foundation focuses its philanthropic work on three crucial elements of our world: Animals, Humanity, and Nature.

When you look at the goals of the new collaborative vet school at Lakehead, the synergy is undeniable. By training the next generation of veterinarians directly in the communities that need them most, this program will:

✅ Help Animals by closing critical gaps in routine and emergency veterinary care.

✅ Support Humanity by protecting livestock health and bringing vital resources to rural and Indigenous communities.

✅ Nurture Nature by preparing veterinarians to manage wildlife health and conservation in our vast northern ecosystems.
