Saskatchewan Farmland Moose Project We are working with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, as well as the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, to study moose habitat and movement.

The University of Saskatchewan, with the support of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment and the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, is initiating a new research program on moose in rural Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Farmland Moose Project (SFMP) will address a variety of important concerns about moose living in Saskatchewan, especially vehicle collisions and property damage. The SFMP is a res

earch project based out of the Wildlife Ecology and Community Engagement Lab at the University of Saskatchewan, under the supervision of Dr. Ryan Brook. We hope to learn where and when moose will cross highways and roadways, as well as understand how they interact on the prairie landscape. The information gathered in this project will be also be valuable for developing moose management strategies, which will ensure long-term survival of harvestable moose populations on the prairies. The SFMP will involve collaring 50 moose with satellite collars that give hourly updates on their locations. Collaring efforts will start with 25 moose in February 2013. Capture and collaring procedures will follow the guidelines developed with the University of Saskatchewan and the province of Saskatchewan, and will follow the guidelines set out by Canadian Council for Animal Care. We will be making every effort possible to engage the public in our project and ensure that people are updated with events as they happen. Please check in here regularly to hear about future events like town presentations or to see the newest moose location data. If you have any questions about this project, please contact us here. We are excited to be working with you! Check back regularly for updates on project progress!
