We are excited to announce that IEEE NEMESS 2025 (the 1st IEEE Conference on Nano/Micro Engineering, Molecular, and Environmentally Sustainable Systems) was a tremendous success!
Hosted by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council USask Chapter on August 29, 2025 in Saskatoon, this groundbreaking event united more than 50 attendees and featured 7 speakers from Europe, Edmonton, and Saskatoon.
This full-day event became a platform that raised the impact of both local and global research, provided innovative advances and vibrant networking opportunities across Nano/Micro research fields.

The IEEE Nanotechnology Council USask Chapter is pleased to announce that speaker registration is now open for the 1st Conference on Nano/Micro Engineering, Molecular, and Environmentally Sustainable Systems (NEMESS 2025), to be held in Saskatoon, Canada.

Researchers, students, and professionals are invited to present their work and engage in meaningful interdisciplinary dialogue.
Topics include nano/micro devices, renewable energy materials, solutions for sustainable food systems, and more.

Researchers at the University of Rochester have demonstrated that twisting two layers of molybdenum diselenide at large angles creates excitons that function as quantum bits, potentially advancing quantum computing technologies.

Researchers show that precisely layering nano-thin materials creates excitons -- essentially, artificial atoms -- that can act as quantum information bits, or qubits.

MIT physicists have discovered that electrons can form crystalline structures in rhombohedral graphene—a material composed of atomically thin carbon layers stacked in a specific order—by adjusting the applied voltage at ultra-low temperatures. 2023 was a year to remember. We received our award for outstanding performance during adverse times (2021-2022) starting the first IEEE-NTC student branch chapter in Western Canada. We collaborated with other IEEE volunteers across Canada and organized events where we engaged young professionals with experts in various research areas of nanotechnology. I couldn't be more thankful to my colleagues Eric Petro and Jose Alvim Berkenbrock for all their efforts, teamwork and passion for nanotechnology. I also thank the IEEE-NTC for recognizing our achievements and considering us for this award. I'm confident that the new team (including Noah Zanyk) will gain more members to the chapter and continue to make a difference by connecting students and volunteers with experts across USask and Canada.
