Happening today (September 25th) at 4:30-6pm at Centre for Newfoundland Studies, Memorial University Libraries. https://dai.mun.ca/digital/muslimnarr Celebrating this important project and archival collection

For the past six years, the Muslim Narratives and Lives in Newfoundland (MNL) project has been collecting archival materials from Muslims across the province, building a public collection now held at Archives and Special Collections at Memorial University. This archive is a resource for anyone seeking to learn about the history and presence of Muslim communities in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Visit https://www.nlmuslimlives.ca to read more about the project.

As part of Memorial University’s 100th Anniversary, MNL is hosting an event alongside the Religious Studies in Atlantic Canada (RESAC) conference on September 25th to celebrate the archive.

Come explore the vibrant stories and rich history of Muslims in Newfoundland through our Community Archive Exhibit. This in-person event showcases personal narratives, photos, and artifacts that celebrate the religious and cultural diversity Muslim communities have long contributed to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Everyone is welcome.

It has been a good week at the MHA. In addition to History 3840 (Historical Methods, Dr. Jeff Webb) students who are poring over old passenger liner crew agreements for their term paper project, we have also been fortunate to host a research team from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto. Alice Nouvet, Neftalí Sillero, and Rafael Sousa Santos are part of the ERC-funded project, Fishing Architecture, examining how the industrialization of North Atlantic fisheries affected marine ecosystems, and the role that architecture played in that process. We have enjoyed working with them to find archival documents that support their research.
