This event will reflect on the scholasticide in Gaza and the future of education in the region. Scholasticide refers to the systematic destruction of the educational life of national, ethnic, racial, or religious groups. During the most recent war, Israeli forces destroyed all of Gaza’s universities. Several thousand Palestinian faculty members, staff, and students were killed or injured. This panel will demonstrate the current state of Gaza’s education system, the conditions under which people continue their education, and how this situation can be understood through the lens of international law.

Don’t miss this important panel discussion on the present and future of academic work in Gaza. Join us for an insightful conversation on the challenges, resilience, and aspirations of scholars in the region. Your presence and engagement matter—be part of this important dialogue. 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

Important event at Birzeit University, which will be livestreamed.

Architecture of Repair in Palestine
9th of January 2025
11:00 am — 3:00 pm
Birzeit University Museum
Ruins have been imposed on the landscape of Palestine by settler colonial and imperial violence for more than a century. Destruction is not new, but the intensity of the current iteration of the genocide is beyond description. In Gaza, an entire society lay in rubble. Palestinian land and bodies, material infrastructure and cultural heritage have endured ongoing and relentless violence, but the past fifteen months have been unbearable. At a time when Palestinian life worlds, in Gaza and in Palestine, are being reduced to rubble and devastation by the settler state, nourishing hope for a just life is paramount.

Emilio Distretti “Architecture of Repair in Palestine’
Rana Barakat: “Generative or Extractive: Intellectualism as Political Practice”
