Hello, everyone!! ✨I'm Shreyaa, a current second-year going to England for ENG296Y0 - Topics in English Literature: Shakespeare! ☆⌒(ゝ。∂) I'm excited to document my time in England, where I'll be studying at Oxford University and learning all about Shakespeare 📖 This is a great opportunity for me to study Shakespeare’s plays in great detail and see them performed on stage, so I’m super excited! Tag along to follow my journey throughout August! (˶ˆᗜˆ˵)

Room tour at the University of Oxford Worcester College edition. I live in Canal, which is basically the furthest residence from everything, and my room is at the very end of it too… so I get some extra exercise every single day just trying to get home. Getting healthy without even trying. And yes, I had to drag my suitcases all the way here. But the view is worth it, and I’m obsessed with the long desk of my dreams.

Social life at Oxford! Outside of class, assignments, and readings, there is so much to do in and out of Oxford! I spent most of my time within Oxford and during a weekend I got to go visit the Harry Potter studios🪄. Other places I visited include, New College (Oxford not UofT), the Blackwell bookstore, Knoops (a cafe just for chocolate!😋), the Radcliffe Camera, and the Bodleian Library. Another fun Oxford tradition we did was punting! It was such a unique activity and I'm glad to have experienced it, tho it is harder than it looks. At the end of the program, Worcester College arranged a high table dinner where we got certificates and tote bags! This was a great chance to hang out with everyone one last time and a chance for us to dress up 😊

Welcome to a day in my life studying abroad in Berlin! 🇩🇪✨ My day usually starts with breakfast at the hotel before we head to campus around 9:30 a.m. by subway. Our course is mainly about Berlin’s culture and architecture, so every day we get to learn something different about the city. After class ends around 12 p.m., we usually grab lunch and have about two hours of free time before heading to our next site visit. Since we visit a different place almost every day, I’m always excited to see where we’re going next! Most days, we’re free after 5 p.m., so that’s when we get to decide how we want to spend the rest of our day. Sometimes I stay on the first floor of the hotel to finish some work, and other times I go out and hang out with friends. It’s honestly a really nice balance between studying, exploring, and just enjoying Berlin with friends. 🥨🤍

A little glimpse into life outside the classroom in Berlin 🇩🇪✨ Between classes and field trips, we also had plenty of time to explore Berlin together — trying different restaurants and cafés, walking around the city, discovering new places, and of course, making lots of memories with friends. For me, these little moments were just as special as the academic part of the trip. Good food, random conversations, late nights, and getting to know a new city together made the experience feel like so much more than just a study abroad program.

Stepping into the academic side of this experience, here are some photos from our final field trip within our Digital Humanities course. For our final trip, we got the chance to do a data walk through Nottinghill and Kensington, making notes of surveillance infrastructures within the areas. This trip was a chance for us to combine all the course content we learnt thus far and to implement it in a fun and interactive way. We left the college campus at 8am, picking up a packed breakfast, we then took a coach bus to Nottinghill. From there we got a chance to explore the Museum of Brands (first couple photos). That point forward in groups we split off and walked from Nottinghill to Kensington. We were able to explore places such as the Portobello Market, Nottinghill Gate, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, and finish off at the Victoria and Albert Museum, while keeping an eye out for how surveillance measures are extended into our day-to-day living. To talk more about the course, the digital humanities course is such a unique and interesting course taught by an amazing professor. We get the chance to learn about network technologies starting from way back to when the telegraph was first invented, all the way to how our phones influence us in today’s society. With such a variety of majors and programs within our course, it is cool to see all our different backgrounds coming together in our class discussions.
