Now that **April Fool's Day** is over I wanted to be sure because more than a few people fell for it. MOST people knew it was a joke but just to be clear, there is no 'Hogspoint, Saskatchewan' and no pig this large has been shot in Canada.

This photo also uses the standard fisher/hunter trick of putting the person back behind the animal some distance to make it look much bigger.

The Canadian Wild Pig Research Project (formerly WildHogWatch) has been working on wild pigs in Canada for now into our 15th year. Our first evidence of wild pigs on trail cameras came in 2011 and since then we've documented and mapped 65,000 occurrences, provided the ONLY national scale wild pigs maps in Canada as well as many many provincial scale or municipal scale maps of pigs. Sadly the problem only gets worse every single year so this work is soul crushing in so many ways.

It is worth repeating that 'corn is king'. True if you are using baits or if you can find fields with standing corn these days. Pigs will do just about anything and take big risks to access corn. Rotting, stinky corn that has sat in buckets of water with yeast is pretty awesome, the stinkier the better, add some 2L bottles of cream soda and you are in business.

If we ever get a hard freeze without any snow it will be hard on the pigs since they won't have any snow to tunnel into.

"Bergmann's Rule" is a rule in ecology that for a species with a large distribution animals of a species are bigger in the north than in the south. This is because there is a massive advantage to being bigger in colder environments. So extreme cold puts small and skinny animals at much more risk.
