It's happening! The AVPA is bringing back the initiative of the Pride Hour events, a series of workshops about 2SLGBTQIA+-related issues. These events will happen once a week on campus (every Tuesday from 12-1 pm), starting on the 5th of November. Since we want to start from the basics, the first topic will be Human Sexuality 101. We'll reflect on our own experiences and make our own Genderbread Person. Counts as SRP hours!

A student researcher from Adler University (Vancouver Campus) is looking for participants for his study on same-sex public displays of affection. See the graphic for more information.

Save the date for a drag show on Sunday, April. 7th from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at The Birdhouse by Eastside Studios to fundraise for Prospect Counselling’s low-cost counselling program (www.prospectcounselling.ca)! The event highlights and amplifies the voices of SDQTBIPOC+ drag artists, while creating more opportunities for their community to access barrier-free and anti-oppressive counselling services.

The event is supported by Adler Vancouver Pride Association and Venturous Counselling (www.venturouscounselling.com), a justice-oriented counselling group connected to Prospect Counselling, and sponsored by local businesses. We hope it can raise awareness of the inaccessibility of mental health resources and promote Venturous Counselling’s free-resource database as another way to approach mental health and to fill in the gaps of inaccessibility.

Today is Transgender Day of Rememberance, a day in which we honor the lives that have been lost to acts of anti-trans violence. It is feeling ever more important in current times, with emerging legistlative discrimination against transgender and 2SLGTBQIA+ people. We cannot be idle in protecting the rights of transgender people.

Remember, on Tuesday we will be showing the film Disclosure in the common room (4-7pm). This documentary is about the lives and media representation of transgender people. Show up to show solidarity and get 3 SRP hours for participating!

Monday, November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance – a day in which we honor the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. In recognition of this day, the Adler Vancouver Pride Association will be showing the film Disclosure.

“The documentary is a look at depictions of transgender people in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures society’s deepest anxieties about gender.”

Come watch with us on Tuesday, November 21st at 4 to 7 pm in the Community Hall. We will gather at 4 pm and give everyone some time to grab a drink, pop some popcorn, and settle into a seat. At 4:15 we will start the film. After the film, we will engage in discussion: reflecting on what we saw, our impressions and learnings, and the impact on our perspectives as mental health professionals.

This event is worth 3 SRP Hours! Please note: You must stay for the full duration of the film and the discussion to earn your SRP Hours. Please be sure to leave your full name with the host to receive your hours.

Here is a sneak peek at the prizes for the Play with Gender Halloween Party this Monday!

There will be 3 categories for the costumes contest:
1) Best Hand-made Item, Prop, or Accessory (Best D.I.Y.)
2) Q***r Icon
3) Best Performance (Dress as your favorite artist / character + Interpretation)

Hope to see you there - in costume or not, for a little time or as long as you can between 4 and 6 in the Community Hall.

It’s spooky season! AVAN Pride is throwing a Play with Gender Halloween Party on Monday, October 30th at 4-6 pm in the Community Hall. Come (if you can) in a way that expresses your unique sense of gender euphoria – however that presents for you. Be creative as you express or experiment with gender (in clothing or an object, in binary or not, in onesie or costume, in authenticity!)

There will be prizes! The person with the best handmade item will win and Adler University Pride t-shirt, and various other prizes will be distributed throughout the night.

There will be games! We have a selection, and you get to choose.

Come and go! We know, life is busy, and you probably have to attend class. Stop in anyway, even if just to
say hi and pilfer some snacks.
