Join us Thursday May 21st as Mark Glanville (musician, author, professor) teaches about “Locally Rooted Worship”

7pm at Knox Presbyterian Church
2964 Richmond Rd

“The evening will explore how to worship in a way that is rooted in our local place, connecting with our senses and reminding us to live well in Jesus' name in our neighbourhood. Thoughtful churches can create “homegrown” liturgies, songs, and prayers that reflect local aesthetics, symbols, and values.”

Join us this Thursday May 14th at our Taste of Vista public lectures 7pm st Saanich Community Church

Micah Smith will be speaking on; Faith and Technology: Discernment, Human Dignity, and the Tools We Use

How can the church engage technology without losing sight of the unique value of the human person? Beginning with Genesis and the biblical vision of humans as God’s stewards in creation, we can reflect on what that means for church life today. Technologies such as sound systems, digital communication, church management tools, and AI offer real benefits, yet they can also erode attention, trust, and meaningful relationships if used uncritically. Rather than rejecting technology or embracing it unthinkingly, the church is invited to practice discernment. We need to use tools in ways that strengthen the embodied community, deepen trust, and support the personal connections at the heart of Christian life.

We were absolutely delighted to have Mark Buchanan with us for our Called and Formed conference this weekend—it was such a gift to learn from him.

Mark has just released a brand-new book, and while it completely sold out at the conference (which tells you something!), you can still pick up a copy through your local bookstore or find it online in print or audio.

Based on a true story
Buchanan delivers a thought-provoking examination of the role of Christians in war and what true religion really means. Using larger than life characters from history, he weaves a philosophical tale of danger, intrigue, and sacrifice. ―Library Journal

In the quiet village of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, a resistance is stirring
In Europe, the N**i regime's bloody wake persists as they brutally send "undesirables" to concentration camps. Hannah, a young Jew, loses her mother and sister while fleeing certain death, arriving in Le Chambon in search of refuge.

Driven by their deeply rooted faith in God, Protestant pastor André Trocmé and his formidable wife Magda have turned the unassuming community in the foothills of the French Alps into a quiet resistance―a haven where they shelter escapees from Hitler's ever-tightening fist.

But a sadistic crew is on the rise. Under the supervision of the Butcher of Lyon, Gestapo officer Herr Lauer pursues the Jewish girl. Hannah was in his sights, but when she evaded him, his explosive rage and thirst for revenge set him on a spiraling mission to track her down.

With lyrical prose and historical accuracy, Mark Buchanan weaves a riveting narrative from the real-life stories of a pastor, a refugee, a spy, and an author tangled together in a plot against the Reich

We kicked off our Called and Formed conference with the launch of Gordon's new book through New Leaf press, a pastor and ministry leaders coffee session with Mark and Gordon, and Gordon’s Friday night lecture on Calling and vocation, accompanied by music from Becky and Matthew. It's still possible to join the conference today at 10 am for a day focused on formation through Sabbath keeping, led by Mark.

Coffee on the deck, soaking in the morning and reading the hot-off-the-press new release from New Leaf Press by Dr. Gordon Smith, Amy Bratton, and others, with a foreword by Mark Buchanan.

This timely book explores mid-career calling, multi-vocational leadership, and the shared ministry of lay leaders and clergy—an honest and hopeful look at how God continues to call and form us in every season.

Vista is looking forward to celebrating this new book at our Called and Formed conference this Friday and Saturday.
