Breakthrough Alert! 🍄 💛 💙

Researchers at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Science led by Dr. Siyaram Pandey, have unveiled promising anti-cancer activity in Black Sh**un Maitake mushroom extract, showing potential against pancreatic, colon, glioblastoma, lung, and breast cancer cells in pre-clinical trials.

Remarkably, this natural extract is non-toxic, well-tolerated, and may even enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy at the cellular level.

Next up? Testing its preventative potential in a transgenic mouse model that’s predisposed to breast cancer. Could this mark the start of a new era in safer, nature-based cancer treatment strategies?

Do larger green spaces support greater bird diversity? 🐦🌳

That’s the question University of Windsor, Faculty of Science students set out to answer during a hands-on summer field course in Paris. Armed with bioacoustic sensors, they explored the city’s green spaces, recording and analyzing bird calls across urban parks.

Now, their immersive research mentored by Prof. Dan Mennill and Dr. Stéphanie Doucet has led to a peer-reviewed publication in Avian Conservation and Ecology.
