“Love your material, love your students, love yourself.”

That has been Karen Ridd's main philosophy on teaching at CMU. From being a "professional clown" in hospitals worldwide to working on human rights in Central America, Ridd draws on her extensive experience leading classes on conflict resolution that inspire passion and are rooted in self-love.

"I hope the way I teach and the way I treat people are congruent with what I teach," says Ridd. "That congruency also gives them a model for how to interact and be with people."

Such teaching made Ridd the co-recipient of the 2022 Kay and Lorne Dick Teaching Excellence Award. Her achievement reflects the exceptional teaching CMU offers.

Need something fun for your child from July 13–17? Register your child for Mini CMU! These day camps for ages 6–12 run all summer long, and next week's Creative Legends camp is about imagination and creativity. Campers will explore painting, drawing, sculpture, music, drama, outdoor games, and have plenty of opportunities to make new friends.

Campers are divided into junior and senior age groups. A meal plan is available if you'd like one less thing to worry about.

While working at CBC Manitoba, alumna Chloe Friesen often reflects on how CMU had set them up for success.

"The Communications and Media program taught me the practical skills I use daily at work, and the rest of my courses provided a strong foundation for writing and research skills," says Friesen.
