“Her” Dharmakāya Appearance https://cafa.com.cn/en/opinions/reviews/details/8332603 As we all know, the “Dharmakāya appearance” is a transcendental realm beyond genders and can be reached by both men and women. At the exhibition, I vaguely sensed Zhang Yanzi’s wish: even if one wants to explore female artists or feminism, one should not focus on “gender” but should transcend it—because the secular world in which men and women live is not the entire “life world”: beyond the body, there is the spirit; beyond the spirit, there is “inward transcendence.”

Be it poetry, painting or photography: Observing ancient and modern figures from the Collection of CAFA Art Museum https://cafa.com.cn/en/news/details/8332588 The exhibition themed on “There has always been poetry in genre paintings: Ancient and Modern Figures in Collection of CAFA Art Museum” was recently unveiled at CAFA Art Museum. It was selected into the “2024 Exhibition Season of National Art Museum Collection Catalog” (a total of 30 projects) in the seasonal activity. This exhibition juxtaposes ancient genre paintings with modern photography (including moving image), aiming to guide visitors to have a more comprehensive understanding of the common nature and poetic feelings in ancient genre paintings through the perspective of modern works. The exhibition is divided into two sections: “Ode to Peaceful Scenery” and “Capturing Ordinary Moments”, which jointly showcase social etiquette and artistic expression in daily life.

In “Dialogue” with Emperor Qianlong: 15 Domestic and Foreign Artists Interpreting the “Recursion” in Chinese Philosophy https://www.cafa.com.cn/en/news/details/8332547 Being an exhibition featuring few collection from Taikang Foundation, “Two Sides of One Coin” includes the works of fifteen artists, casting light on the contemporary art ecology from a global perspective. Focusing on problems such as alienation among people and lack of meaning brought about by the rapid development of modernity, it presents the departure and return of artists from different regions based on this origin. The metaphorical principle of recursion in Shi Yi Shi Er (One or Two) was followed by the curator when making and selecting exhibits. Some series of works were broken down, resembled, and repeatedly displayed in different galleries, which encourages visitors to look for connections from one origin to another, thereby visualizing the concept of recursion, guiding the audience to feel the activation of the cycle, and experience the recursion from the natural world to the spiritual world.
