Launch of the European Project SAGRIT – Sustainable Agriculture Training for professionals!

The Agricultural University of Athens hosted the kick-off meeting with partners from Greece (Agricultural University of Athens, Creative Thinking Development), Italy (UNIVERSITA DEGLI STUDI DI TORINO), Spain (UNIVERSIDAD DE ALCALA), Κούβα (UNIVERSIDAD DE CAMAGUEY IGNACIO AGRAMONTE LOYNAZ, UNIVERSIDAD AGRARIA DE LA HABANA "FRUCTUOSO RODRIGUEZ PEREZ", UNIVERSIDAD DE ARTEMISA “JULIO DIAZ GONZALEZ”, EMPRESA COMPLEJO MAYABEQUE S.A. (ECM) – Cuban Science & Technology Interface Organization) .

The project funded by the EU with a budget of €400,000, aims to develop innovative training programs for climate-smart agriculture and livestock farming, focusing on precision agriculture, sustainable resource management, and the integration of new technologies.

During the meeting, the project’s objectives, deliverables, and timeline were presented, while discussions covered dissemination activities, the quality plan, pilot trainings, and ways to support Cuban universities with equipment.

Through collaboration and the exchange of best practices, professionals in the primary sector will strengthen their knowledge and skills, contributing to the green transition and tackling the impacts of climate change.

🇵🇪🇨🇺 A total of 6 Peruvian students and 1 Peruvian teacher from the Tourism program will take part in a three-week student mobility internship at our university. The official welcome was offered this Monday by students and administrators of the Faculty of Economic Sciences.

🌎📍Among their interests, Reyna Robles Espinosa, who visits our university as an alumna, highlighted community-based tourism because of its importance in the Andean region, as well as the opportunity to share the Peruvian experience, culture and values.

🌐👨‍🏫 MSc. Ramón Hernández de la Torre, head of the Tourism Department, emphasized the program’s profile in the Camagüey and Cuban context —which has been offered at UC for 11 years— and its impact on local development.

📚🗣️ The presentation also included an overview of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), the Multidisciplinary Center for Tourism Studies (Cemtur), the faculty staff, the work of the University Student Federation, and the external evaluation process that the program will undergo soon.

👩‍🏫 The faculty dean, Dr. C. Dayanis Socarrás Viamontes, highlighted the results of the faculty’s undergraduate and graduate programs, its chairs, research centers and scientific journal, as well as its contribution to two of the university’s research lines.

🍴📑 To conclude, the Peruvian students attended a practical class on Restaurant Management and joined first-year students in the seminar for the course Principles, Organization and Practices of Tourism, accompanied by Dayana Stewart Figueredo, Head of the UC Department of Foreign Students.

The University of Camagüey's Curriculum Internationalization Strategy was the subject of discussion at a workshop led by Dr. C. Yanetsy García Acevedo, Director of Training, for vice-deans and professors of the university.

📌 The research, developed jointly with Dr. C. Alicia Rodríguez Gregorich, the acting rector, and stemming from the courses of the "My Internationalized University" Diploma, serves as a starting point for this training. The training aims to facilitate the development and implementation of the strategy within the faculties and represents another initiative by the Directorate of Internationalization to enhance the global projection of UC.

✒️ During the workshop, held at the Scientific Cinema, successful examples were analyzed, including cases from Cuba, such as the University of Havana's ENLACES-UNESCO Network, and from other countries, like the Argentine project "Aulas sin fronteras" (Classrooms Without Borders).

🌐 Curricular internationalization, as highlighted during the meeting, is understood as the systematic integration of global dimensions into the teaching-learning process. It extends beyond mere mobility to become embedded in program content and structures, university extension activities, teaching methods, and more, specifically aiming to foster intercultural and global dimensions in pursuit of educational quality.

✍️ La Estrategia Curricular de Internacionalización de la Universidad de Camagüey resultó tema de debate en el taller impartido por la Dra. C. Yanetsy García Acevedo, directora de Formación, a vicedecanos y profesores de esta casa de altos estudios.

📌 La investigación desarrollada de conjunto con la Dra. C. Alicia Rodríguez Gregorich, rectora en funciones, fruto de los cursos del Diplomado "Mi Universidad Internacionalizada" constituye punto de partida para este entrenamiento que propicia la elaboración e implementación de la estrategia en las facultades y otra de las acciones de la Dirección de Relaciones Internacionales para elevar la proyección global de la UC.

✒️ En el taller realizado en el Cine Científico se analizaron ejemplos de éxitos tanto de Cuba como es el caso de la Universidad de La Habana con la Red ENLACES- UNESCO como de otros países como el proyecto argentino "Aulas sin fronteras"

🌐 La internacionalización curricular entendida como la integración sistemática de dimensiones globales en el proceso docente educativo, como bien se destacó en el encuentro , va más allá de la movilidad para imbricarse en los contenidos y formas de los programas, la extensión universitaria, los métodos didácticos, entre otros, intencionando la dimensión intercultural y global en aras de la calidad educativa.

🇨🇺🤝🇪🇸 As an international cooperation action, coordinated between the Center for Multidisciplinary Tourism Studies (Cemtur) of the University of Camagüey and the University of Málaga (UMA), Dr. C. Francisco José Rodríguez Marín delivered the lecture "Cultural Tourism and Tourist Success in Málaga (Spain): A Critical Analysis."

👨‍🏫 The professor from the UMA Department of Tourism and member of the Andalusian Institute for Research and Innovation in Tourism addressed topics in his presentation such as:

- Málaga as a quality destination, a commercial and conventual city; its history and economic cycles with diverse orientations.
- Heritage and entertainment for a new tourist city.
- Evolution of Tourism.
- Shift toward Cultural Tourism through Museums.
- Film Tourism: Festivals of the Seventh Art.
- Restaurant industry and wine tourism (enotourism).
- Heritage and the negative consequences of tourist success on citizens’ lives.

🗣️ "For us, the working and collaborative ties with Dr. C. Francisco represent a strength because he is a research professor regarded in Málaga as an encyclopedia on aspects related to Heritage," said Dr. C. Gerson Herrera Pupo, director of Cemtur.

✅ Among other participants, the lecture included students from the UC Master’s in Tourism Management (the cohort taught in Cayo Cruz), students and professors from the Architecture and Tourism programs, managers and specialists from the Santa María Company, Formatur, and other institutions.

✅️ The Directorate of Internationalization of the UC, represented by its director Dr. C. Yailé Caballero Mota, met this Thursday with professors from the University of Seville, Dr. C. Santiago Quesada García and MSc. María Lozano Gómez, who are participating in the Diploma Course "Design of Assistive Equipment for the Health and Well-being of Patients with Alzheimer's."

🇨🇺🇪🇦 During the exchange, Caballero Mota gave a presentation on the University of Camagüey's international relations, especially its ties with Spanish institutions.

📍In this particular case, the specialist emphasized that there are currently 29 framework agreements and specific agreements signed with Spanish institutions. Likewise, she showed the visitors the various study opportunities that UC offers for foreign students and that could be attractive to Spanish students.

💯 For their part, the professors expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from the Institution and discussed other possible opportunities for academic collaboration between the University of Camagüey and the University of Seville.

✅️ Also participating in the exchange were female professors who are members of the international project: "Aging, cognitive impairment, and health in the World Heritage Zone of Camagüey (Cuba): diagnosis, characterization, and mapping of assistive facilities for a vulnerable population in the historic center," led by the project's Cuban coordinator, Dr. C. Marisabel Almeida Torrens.

✅️ A group of professors from the Faculty of Informatics/Exact Sciences at the University of Camagüey are representing this institution at the VI International Convention of the University of Informatics Sciences.

🎙The event, which began on October 14th and will run until next Friday, featured the Opening Lecture: "Beyond the Algorithm: Cuba's Footprint in Global AI and Educational Transformation," delivered by Dr. C. Yailé Caballero Mota, a member of the World Academy of Sciences and a full professor at UC.

🌎 As it does every month, the activities of the Internationalization Fair, organized annually by the Directorate of Internationalization of the University of Camagüey, continued this Thursday.

👩‍🏫 MSc. Grisel Curbelo Arci, a specialist from the DRI, delivered a talk to update and inform professors from the Faculty of Informatics and Exact Sciences about the internationalization efforts undertaken by our university.

🇨🇺🇪🇦 Next week will mark the final stage of the Diploma Course "Design of Assistive Equipment for the Health and Well-being of People with Alzheimer's," as part of the International Project "Aging, Cognitive Impairment, and Health in the World Heritage Zone of Camagüey (Cuba): diagnosis, characterization, and mapping of assistive facilities for a vulnerable population in the historic center."

✅️ The project, led by the Universities of Seville (US) and Camagüey (UC), with the collaboration of the International University of Andalusia (UiA), is scheduled to feature conferences delivered by renowned professionals from these institutions.
📍This stage of the Diploma Course will be attended by 20 professionals, representing the University of Camagüey (the Alma Máter agramontina), the Office of the City Historian of Camagüey, and the Vértice Company of Holguín.
✅️ The conferences will also be attended by Architecture students from UC and students from the Master's programs in Heritage Conservation and Neuropsychology.

🇨🇺🤝🇷🇺Present at the venue of the VII Forum of University Rectors of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cuba, our Vice-Rector, Dr. C. Ognara García García, will represent our higher education institution on October 9th and 10th.

✅This edition of the Forum will take place at the Intellectual Center – Fundamental Library of Lomonosov Moscow State University, and its agenda includes visits to institutions with bilateral interests, historical sites, and the Institute of Asian and African Studies.

💪🏻In addition to the plenary sessions, the work program includes panels on topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Agriculture, Pedagogical Innovations, and Renewable Energies; as well as agreement signing ceremonies and the opening of the XX All-Russian Congress of Sciences.

A total of 41 professionals received their Graduate Diplomas in "My Internationalized University" this Monday. They are now internationalization agents from various fields of knowledge and institutions in Camagüey.

👩‍🏫On behalf of the graduates, Maytee Lajes Ugarte expressed gratitude for the passion, dedication, and professionalism of each professor in addressing the content delivered during this professional development program. "With the tools acquired, we are equipped to face new challenges and become agents of change in our institutions," she stated.

🌎This first edition of the "My Internationalized University" Diploma, coordinated by the International Affairs Department of the UC, among with other areas of the university, included students from the University of Camagüey, Medical Sciences, the PCC (Communist Party of Cuba), and the Government.

👩‍🏫👨‍🏫On this occasion, the graduates received three modules on topics related to international research, intercultural skills, international event management, and the use of beneficial technologies.

🏆The group of professors who made up the faculty that delivered each of the workshops and training sessions was also recognized at the ceremony.

💬PhD Alicia Rodríguez Gregorich, acting rector, congratulated the graduates for reinforcing the role of the University of Camagüey through this collaborative model, in which each module has strengthened the capacities of professionals in Camagüey.

👩‍💻 "Towards an Artificial Intelligence Strategy in Cuba" was the topic of the keynote lecture given by Dr. C. Yailé Caballero Mota, president of the Camagüey-Ciego de Ávila branch of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.

👩‍🏫 At the Santa Cecilia Convention Center, the AI expert referred to initial definitions, origins, evolution, and current development of Artificial Intelligence in Cuba and the world, as well as in various fields of knowledge.

🗣️ Additionally, our professor and Distinguished Researcher at the International Institute of AI Research in Hebei, China, addressed Generative AI, the need for data usage and its interpretation to predict and acquire new knowledge, and the ways to mitigate all dangers to achieve a responsible, transparent, and ethical use of these technologies.
