Meet the civic engagement team!!!

Meet Faiza

Faiza enjoys hearing students’ ideas about connecting classroom learning with the outside world. With a background in Global Health and Social Protection, secondary education, and youth work in Berlin, she is interested in how education can address societal challenges. Want to get more involved in Berlin or across our university network? Drop by!

Meet Lorna

Lorna coordinates civic engagement activities, helping students turn ideas into meaningful community projects. With a background in human rights, communications, and refugee-led initiatives, she is passionate about social justice and active citizenship. Come talk to her about volunteering, community partners, or getting started!

Meet Solomiia

Solomiia is the Civic Engagement Event and Project Coordinator and Office Assistant, as well as a second-year EPST student at BCB. She leads the School Without Borders initiative and is co-leads the , bringing her passion for community-building and student-led projects to the team.

Meet Madina

Madina is the Civic Engagement Social Media and Communications Student Assistant and a second-year EPST student at BCB. She co-organizes Race Against Racism and is an active member and co-leader of EJAAD BERLIN . She is passionate about student-led initiatives, communication, and positive change in the BCB community.

On 26 September, we came together in Mauerpark for International Voices for Diversity – Mauerpark Against Racism and Exclusion, a demonstration led by the Race Against Racism team in collaboration with BCB civic engagement, Freunde des Mauerparks e.V. and Bard College Berlin.
At the heart of the demonstration was a symbolic four-hour relay race: the Race Against Racism. Each participant carried the message forward, representing our shared responsibility to challenge racism, discrimination, and exclusion.
The organizers, Madina Sarabi ’29, Nasr Al Aghbari ’29, and James Akech ’29, alongside the Race Against Racism team, said:
“Taking place directly after the Berlin elections, the demonstration created a space for international students and the wider community to make their voices heard, especially those who are not eligible to vote but are very much a part of Berlin.”
Together, we stood for diversity, inclusion, equal participation, and a community where everyone feels seen, respected, and welcome. Thank you to everyone who ran, supported, spoke, and stood with us.

Recently, we hosted a thought-provoking session with Paul Joo You Kim on the question: Is AI’s growing influence on the world inevitable?

The session brought together students and faculty for an interdisciplinary discussion exploring AI through the lenses of economics, business, and social entrepreneurship, encouraging us to think critically about how AI is shaping our world and what its future might look like.

On 16 September, Bard College Berlin’s Civic Engagement Office hosted an informative session on the 2026 Berlin State Elections.

The session brought students and community members together to learn more about the upcoming elections, the political and social context in Berlin, the key issues being debated, and what the election results could mean for the city and its communities.

We were joined by Reinhard Fischer from the Berlin Centre for Civic Education and Pia Voltz (Volt), who shared insights into the electoral process, the campaign landscape, and current political debates.
