❇️ This video shows cattle grazing on a sorghum plot at its second cutting stage at our demonstration site in Sétif, Algeria, as part of the European WATERMELLON project – PRIMA Section 1. The first cut of the sorghum was harvested and sold as silage, while the regrowth from the second cut is being used for direct grazing by the farmer’s cattle. This strategy aims to maximize the value of sorghum production, optimize the use of available forage resources, and better balance forage supply with dairy production requirements. By combining silage production for sale with direct grazing, the farmer seeks to improve the economic profitability of the cropping system while supporting the quality of final product from livestok activity. This practical approach highlights the potential of locally adapted forage management strategies to better promote more sustainable, resource-efficient, and resilient livestock farming systems in the Mediterranean region.
