From its inception
Institute of African Studies and Research built in 1947, and was called the Institute for Sudanese Studies, where he was followed by the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University. It was then that includes two parts only are history and geography, and the duration of the study in which two years and then became an independent institute affiliated to the University directly in 1950, un
der the name of the Institute of African Studies, and in 1970, presidential decree was issued establishing an independent institute for research and African Studies and then were added new sections, where was created four sections: political and economic systems, Department of Anthropology, Department of African Languages, Department of Natural Resources
Has evolved Study Institute developed radically in the stages of diploma and master's and doctoral degrees, in the year 2004 issued Ministerial Decree No. 1947 issued a list of the Institute which is the present Regulations which apply the credit hour system, and in the light of which are awarded diplomas first general diploma, a diploma application is not eligible for MA and PhD and the second Special Diploma Specialist Diploma is eligible for master's and doctoral degrees, provided for the student to appreciate the good in the Special Diploma. First, scientific expertise accumulated over the three and sixty years since its inception through the first and the different stages of development. Secondly, the insistence of the current generation of leaders and faculty to remain Institute represents the optimal model for all who wish to complete their higher studies in African affairs in the various scientific disciplines, whether in Egypt or the Arab world or Africa. Third, the expression of scientific and academic from the fact that Egypt is an integral part of the African continent, and our ties on the continent should be strengthened in all fields, where the Institute is the main center for the preparation of cadres specialized and capable of developing Egypt's relations with the continent and its development in a world characterized by dynamic and rapid change. Fourth, to meet the requirements of quality, accreditation and keep up with the latest scientific progress and the achievement of academic standards in the field of global studies and research in Africa. And on that vision is the Institute to continue to keep the Institute the leading role as the best Institute for Graduate Studies in African Affairs in Egypt and the Arab world, and it is most able to produce qualified personnel concerned in the African in the fields of scientific research and diverse on the African continent and that it is better to provide the service of the Egyptian society, and the most capable to achieve the scientific communication and research centers and institutes with the debate, in the world in general, and on the African continent in particular. Crystallized message and Research Institute of African Studies in the groups activities, programs and services that the Institute seeks to be presented, as well as business and various projects that can be adopted to achieve the mission of which as an institute for postgraduate studies follow the University of Cairo. The mission of the Institute achieved by adhering to international standards of excellence and quality in the fields of education, research and community service and to achieve effective communication with Egypt and the countries of the peoples of the African continent, at the core of the Nile Basin. عن نشأته
نشأ معهد البحوث والدراسات الأفريقية عام 1947م، وكان يطلق عليه معهد الدراسات السودانية، حيث كان يتبع كلية الآداب جامعة القاهرة. وكان حين ذاك يضم قسمين فقط هما التاريخ والجغرافيا، وكانت مدة الدراسة فيه سنتين ثم أصبح معهداً مستقلاً تابعاً للجامعة مباشرة عام 1950م، تحت أسم معهد الدراسات الأفريقية، وفي عام 1970م، صدر قرار جمهوري بإنشاء معهداً مستقلاً للبحوث والدراسات الأفريقية وعندها تم إضافة أقسام جديدة حيث تم إنشاء أربعة أقسام هي قسم النظم السياسية والاقتصادية، قسم الأنثروبولوجيا، قسم اللغات الأفريقية، قسم الموارد الطبيعية.
وقد تطورت الدراسة بالمعهد تطوراً جذرياً في مراحل الدبلوم والماجستير والدكتوراه، ففي عام 2004م صدر القرار الوزاري رقم 1947 بإصدار لائحة للمعهد وهي اللائحة الحالية حيث تطبق نظام الساعات المعتمدة ، وفي ضوئها يتم منح دبلومين الأول الدبلوم العام وهو دبلوم تطبيقي غير مؤهل للماجستير والدكتوراه والثاني الدبلوم الخاص وهو دبلوم تخصصي مؤهل لدرجتي الماجستير والدكتوراه بشرط حصول الطالب على تقدير جيد في الدبلوم الخاص.
أولاً :رؤية المعهد
تقوم رؤية معهد البحوث والدراسات الأفريقية على:
أولاً: الخبرة العلمية المتراكمة علي مدار ثلاثة وستين عاماً منذ نشأته الأولى وعبر مراحل تطوره المختلفة.
ثانياً: إصرار الجيل الحالي من القيادات وأعضاء هيئة التدريس على أن يظل المعهد يمثل النموذج الأمثل لكل الراغبين فى استكمال دراستهم العليا فى الشئون الأفريقية فى التخصصات العلمية المختلفة، سواء أكانوا من فى مصر أم العالم العربى أم أفريقيا.
ثالثاً: التعبير العلمي والأكاديمي عن حقيقة أن مصر جزء لا يتجزأ من القارة الأفريقية، وأن روابطنا بالقارة ينبغي أن تتعزز فى كل المجالات، حيث يعد المعهد المركز الرئيسي لإعداد الكوادر المتخصصة والقادرة على تطوير علاقات مصر بالقارة وتنميتها فى عالم يتميز بالديناميكية وسرعة التغيير.
رابعاً: استيفاء متطلبات الجودة والاعتماد ومواكبة أحدث برامج التقدم العلمى وتحقيق المعايير الأكاديمية العالمية فى مجال الدراسات والبحوث الأفريقية.
وعلي ذلك تتلخص رؤية المعهد في استمرار احتفاظ المعهد بالدور الريادي كأفضل معهد للدراسات العليا فى الشئون الأفريقية فى مصر والعالم العربى، وأنه الأكثر قدرة على تخريج الكوادر المؤهلة المعنية بالشأن الأفريقي فى المجالات العلمية والبحثية المتنوعة على مستوى القارة الأفريقية وأنه الأجدر بتقديم الخدمة للمجتمع المصرى، والأقدر على تحقيق التواصل العلمي والبحثي مع المراكز والمعاهد المناظرة، فى العالم بصفة عامة، وعلى مستوى القارة الأفريقية بصفة خاصة.
ثانياً :رسالة المعهد
تتبلور رسالة معهد البحوث والدراسات الأفريقية فى مجموعات الأنشطة والبرامج والخدمات التى يسعى المعهد لتقديمها، وكذلك الأعمال والمشروعات المختلفة التى يتبناها ويمكن أن يحقق رسالته من خلالها باعتباره معهداً للدراسات العليا يتبع جامعة القاهرة .
وتتحقق رسالة المعهد من خلال الالتزام بالمعايير الدولية للتميز والجودة فى مجالات التعليم والبحوث وخدمة المجتمع وتحقيق تواصل مصر الفعال مع شعوب ودول القارة الافريقية، وفى القلب منها حوض النيل.
