📚✨ Celebrating Research Excellence – Ain Shams University ✨📚

During the 14th Scientific Conference of Ain Shams University, special recognition was given to outstanding international publications, with a proud highlight for the English Department, Faculty of Al-Alsun, as two of its scholars were awarded the International Publication Reward (Batch of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hussein).

🔹 Dr. Radwa Mohammad Mohammad Kotait - "Explicitation & implicitation revisited: Towards a more defined cognitive relevance-theoretic model"
Her research explores the intersection of Translation Studies and Cognitive Linguistics, with a specific focus on the evolving relationship between translation and artificial intelligence. By applying a Relevance-Theoretic framework, her study argues that explicitation and implicitation are not merely textual shifts, but essential tools for maintaining interpretive resemblance between the source and target texts within divergent cognitive environments.

🔹 Dr. Youstina S. Morcos -
“Strategic Maneuvering in The Guardian and The Financial Times: A Comparative Critical Stylistic Study”

Her study explores how language is strategically employed in media discourse to construct arguments and influence readers, highlighting persuasive and ideological dimensions in international journalism.

This achievement reflects the growing impact of the English Department in producing high-quality, internationally recognized research and reinforces Ain Shams University’s commitment to academic excellence and global engagement. 🌍🎓

🌟 A Proud Keynote Moment: Celebrating Professor Nihal Nagi at Indiana University 🌟

It is a moment that the family of the English Department happily pauses to celebrate a truly special moment that is indeed full of pride and heartfelt joy, as we send our warmest congratulations 🌸🌸 to Prof. Nihal Nagi, Professor of Linguistics 🌸🌸 on her remarkable international achievement 🌍🎓.

What a truly inspiring sight it is to see Professor Nihal take her well-deserved place on a global stage to proudly deliver a beautiful keynote entitled "Scripts of power: Decoding Cairo's linguistic landscape" at the 39th Annual Symposium on Arabic Linguistics held at Indiana University, Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies 🎤📚.

The talk examined the signs of public space through the lens of Pierre Bourdieu's linguistic capital and El-Saeed Badawi's continuum model of contemporary Arabic, underscoring the strength of the linguistic landscape in capturing social, economic and ethnographic shifts as they unfold, sometimes even before they surface in official statistics 🏙️🔍.

Today, we are SO pleased, certainly we are 😍😍, but more than that we are grateful for the VERY beautiful example that our dear professor offers, for she is a source of inspiration, a role model and a scholar continues to make us all proud.

Congratulations, Professor Nihal. May your work continue to illuminate and inspire for generations to come 🎉.

Today is more than just an event; it is a homecoming. From 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, our halls will be buzzing with the energy of reunions and the wisdom of experience as we host our English Department Alumni Day.

It’s a proud moment to see our graduates return to their roots, not just as former students, but as pioneers in their fields. They will spend the day bridging the gap between academic life and the professional world, sharing invaluable "on-the-ground" insights with our current students.

Our alumni lead a series of dynamic sessions, proving that an English degree is a powerful passport to diverse career paths. Key topics include:

Deep dives into Content Creation and the evolving Publishing & Literary Translation market.
Exploring the high-stakes worlds of Interpreting and Legal Translation & Fintech.
Practical strategies for Freelancing and the art of Teaching in a digital age.
A unique look at the communication skills required for Air Hosting and international hospitality.

Dear Alumini, we thank you for your generosity. Seeing you share your successes—and your challenges—gives our current students the clarity and confidence they need to step into the job market. You are the living proof that the possibilities for an English graduate are truly limitless.

Dear Al-Alsun students, the journey doesn’t end at graduation; it just changes shape. We hope today’s sessions inspire you to think big and explore the vast professional landscape waiting for you.

Today was one of those rare, soul-stirring days that reminds us why we fell in love with the world of letters and thought. We had the immense honor of hosting the brilliant Prof. Reem Bassiouney - ريم بسيوني, and "inspiring" feels like an understatement.

The lecture was a beautiful paradox: deeply intellectual and rich, yet incredibly warm and inviting. Dr. Reem has a gift for making complex academic intersections feel like a heartfelt conversation among friends.

Dr. Reem spoke passionately about why we must read history. It isn't just about dusty archives; it is a living force that touches our present and carves our future. She masterfully wove together the study of Languages & Culture, History & Literature. She has shown us how these fields are not silos, but a tapestry that defines the human experience.

A highlight of the day was hearing about the hero of her latest novel, Abbas Helmy II. We delved into the stirring story of how he and the people of Egypt—driven by a collective dream—funded and established Cairo University. To think that such a monument of knowledge was born under the shadow of British occupation is a testament to the resilience of the Egyptian spirit.

Dr. Reem’s defense of the Humanities was a wake-up call. In a world increasingly dominated by a materialistic rhetoric that measures human value solely by financial gain, she reminded us that History, culture, geography, and languages are what shape who we are and who we will become. Without the Humanities, we lose our identity. We become mere cogs in a machine. With them, we find our roots and our purpose.

The day was made even more special by our dear Lecturer of Poetry, Dr. Amal ElHadary, who composed a stunning acrostic quartet in honor of Prof. Reem. It was the perfect poetic tribute to a woman who gives so much to our literary landscape.

We left the hall with faces full of smiles, a deep sense of nostalgia for our rich heritage, and—most importantly—a renewed sense of hope for a better future.

Thank you, Dr. Reem Bassiouney, for a day we won't soon forget!
