Summer volunteer service at Ambo University Referral Hospital is on its 5th week.
Our Biomedical and ICT team provided support to catchment heath centers, Ambo and Awaro Health Centers, maintaining medical and IT equipment.

PMT meetings have been consistently conducted at the department and unit levels, and collectively at the hospital level.
This structured approach has created a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across the institution.

Through the regularity of these meetings, existing strengths have been reinforced and sustained, while identified gaps have been systematically addressed. Issues that can be resolved within departments are managed through well‑defined action plans, ensuring clarity of responsibilities and timelines. Challenges that cannot be fully addressed through action plans are escalated into broader quality improvement projects, providing sustainable solutions to systemic obstacles.

This dual mechanism—linking action plans with quality improvement projects—has proven effective in tackling barriers to service delivery. It ensures that immediate problems are resolved while long‑term institutional improvements are secured.
As a result, the hospital is steadily advancing toward the provision of quality health services, marked by better patient outcomes, stronger accountability, and a culture of continuous learning.

On its 4th week of summer volunteer service, Ambo University Referral Hospital has reached out to the underserved part of the community providing free medical screening, ophthalmic screening, nutritional screening, mass health education and in-kind donation of sanitary materials as as well as medical supplies.
Over two days (5 - 6/12/18) at Ambo town Prison, medical screening for all prisoners, women and their children was provided. This occasion in particular was graced by the presence of HE Dr. Bayissa Leta, Ambo University president.

On 8/12/18, we paid a visit to Mekedonia Home for Elders for medical and ophthalmic screening, mental health evaluation, and in-kind donation of different items.

On 9/12/18, mass health education at different marketplaces of Ambo town addressed common communicable and noncommunicable diseases.

The summer volunteer service will continue with other activities in the remaining weeks.

Workshop Completion
The two-day workshop that commenced yesterday was successfully concluded today. In the morning session, the Midwifery Program presented its Data Collection Tool(DCT), followed by an in-depth discussion where valuable insights and recommendations were gathered from experts.
In the afternoon, a field visit was conducted with the participation of experts, the administration, the curriculum committee, and the accreditation committee. During this visit, particular attention was given to the classrooms, the library, and the skills development laboratory, ensuring a comprehensive review of the learning environment.
The workshop concluded with experts providing constructive feedback on existing strengths and areas requiring improvement, thereby marking a significant step toward enhancing the quality of education and institutional standards.
The college would like to thank invited expert for their expertise and dedication, committee, library staff, laboratory technician and all individuals and office contributed for the successfulness of the work shop.
