My Educational Journey: A Story of Resilience, Patience, and Faith 📚✨
How many of us, when faced with continuous obstacles, choose to persevere instead of giving up?
My educational journey is a testament to patience, determination, faith, and the belief that no challenge is greater than a clear vision and unwavering dedication.
1. The Beginning and the First Obstacle 🏥
I began my higher education in the 2011 E.C. academic year at Adigrat University, enrolling in the Medical Laboratory Technology program. I demonstrated strong academic potential early on, achieving a 3.73 GPA. However, due to a severe and medically unexplained illness, I was forced to officially withdraw after completing only my first semester.
What followed was not a short struggle, but a difficult health battle that continued for approximately five years and affected my academic journey across multiple institutions.
2. Rift Valley University: Balancing Health and Academic Excellence 🌿
After my initial withdrawal, I resumed my education at Rift Valley University in the BSc Nursing program. During this period, the Ministry of Education had introduced a new nationwide Freshman curriculum, requiring me to complete additional foundational courses alongside my core nursing studies.
Despite this heavy academic workload and my ongoing illness, I remained committed to my goals and maintained a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA across five semesters.
Beyond academics, I also contributed to the development of the “Wachu Bosoka Rural Clinic Health Center Business Plan,” a project designed to strengthen maternal and primary healthcare services in Chiro, Ethiopia.
3. Institutional Transfer and Haramaya University 🎓
After completing five semesters of Nursing studies at both the Chiro and Harar campuses, national security measures related to the conflict in the Tigray region resulted in my official transfer to Haramaya University.
Upon joining Haramaya University, I completed my Freshman courses at the Harar Campus and achieved an exceptional aggregate score of 89.71%, which qualified me for highly competitive fields, including Medicine and Pharmacy.
However, after years of educational interruption and health challenges, my priority was not prestige, but continuing my education in a field that aligned with both my passion and circumstances.
At the time of department selection, my health had not yet recovered, and I was still suffering from the same condition. This became one of the major reasons I chose Midwifery during my first-semester placement, while Medical Laboratory Technology was my second-semester placement.
Furthermore, continuing in Medical Laboratory Technology during the second semester would have required me to stay at the Haramaya University Main Campus. However, due to weather conditions that were unfavorable for my health, I chose Midwifery instead, which allowed me to return to the Harar Campus. Nevertheless, I continued my studies with patience, determination, and faith.
Then, during my second year of Midwifery studies, something remarkable happened:
I finally achieved a full recovery from the illness that had challenged me for years.
Alhamdulillah. 🤍
4. Academic Achievements and Final Victory 🏅
My academic journey reflects resilience, discipline, and consistency despite prolonged health challenges.
Academic Results
- Medical Laboratory Technology (Adigrat University): GPA 3.73
- BSc Nursing (Rift Valley University): CGPA 4.00
- Freshman Aggregate (Haramaya University): 89.71%
- BSc Midwifery (Final Degree): CGPA 3.91
- National Exit Examination: 83/100
5. The Road Ahead 🚀
Today, I am preparing for the Certificate of Competence (COC) examination to begin serving my community professionally without further delay.
At the same time, my long-term academic goal remains unchanged: I plan to return and complete the remaining semesters of my BSc Nursing degree in the future, In shaa Allah.
By combining both Nursing and Midwifery, I hope to contribute meaningfully to maternal, newborn, and community healthcare services in Ethiopia.
I sincerely thank everyone who supported, encouraged, and believed in me throughout this long journey.
True resilience is not about never falling — it is about rising again every single time life knocks you down. 💪✨
Alhamdulillah for everything.
