Mekelle University: A Beacon of Knowledge or a Fading Light? 💡

As a staff member of Mekelle University-Mekelle Institute of Technology, an institution renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and community development, I am deeply concerned about the stark contrast between our motto, "We Really Care," and the realities faced by our dedicated faculty and staff.

While our university strives to be a leading institution in Ethiopia and the Tigray region, several critical areas require urgent attention:
• Unsafe Transportation: The university's fleet of buses, meant to facilitate staff commute, is alarmingly substandard. Overcrowding, mechanical failures, and a disregard for safety protocols pose a significant risk to the lives of our employees.
• Inadequate Compensation: The salaries of faculty and staff members are far below the cost of living, making it increasingly difficult to sustain a decent standard of living. This financial strain undermines our ability to focus on our core responsibilities and contribute effectively to the university's mission.

I urge the university administration, the Ethiopian Ministry of Education (Ministry of Education Ethiopia), and international organizations like UNESCO (UNESCO) to prioritize the well-being of our staff by addressing these pressing issues. Investing in safe transportation and ensuring fair compensation are essential steps towards fulfilling our motto and upholding the reputation of Mekelle University.

Greeting,

Mekelle Institute of Technology-Mekelle University (MIT-MU), established in 1995 E.C., is dedicated to achieving excellence in Engineering, Science, and R&D. In line with this vision, MIT-MU offers six undergraduate programs:

Computer Science and Engineering,
Electrical and Electronics Engineering,
Electronics and Communications Engineering,
Information Technology,
Biological and Chemical Engineering, and
Material Science and Engineering.
We are seeking outstanding students for the 2024/25 (2017 E.C.) academic year to pursue their undergraduate studies in these programs. Our selection process is based on the following criteria:

Institute’s Entrance exam (English, Mathematics, and Aptitude)
EGSECE/ESLCE results
Preparatory/High School (10+1 or 11th, and 10+2 or 12th) Transcripts
We invite students who completed their preparatory/high school in 2024 (2016 E.C.) with a minimum score of 415 (for male applicants) and 400 (for female applicants) out of 700, or a minimum score of 355 (for male applicants) and 345 (for female applicants) out of 600 in the EGSECE/ESLCE.
