Borana University Hosts Consultative Forum with Hawassa University to Strengthen Strategic Institutional Collaboration

Borana University hosted a consultative forum with Hawassa University aimed at strengthening strategic institutional collaboration. The meeting brought together faculty members from both institutions to exchange experiences and discuss practical opportunities for sustained partnership.

The forum began with opening remarks from Dr. Befekadu Chemere, President of Borana University. In his opening remarks, the President highlighted the vital role of institutional partnerships in advancing higher education, research, knowledge exchange, and community-oriented development. He emphasized that pooling resources and academic expertise enables institutions to effectively address shared regional challenges, elevate academic standards, and implement sustainable solutions that drive meaningful societal development.

Following the opening session, Dr. Galgalo Dika, the Community Engagement Director, presented a strategic overview of Borana University. He provided participants with a comprehensive look at the university's academic programs, research focus areas, community engagement activities, and future strategic directions.

Similarly, Dr. Teramage Tesfaye, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Hawassa University, provided an overview of the institution and its College of Agriculture, highlighting key academic and research areas conducive to institutional cooperation. Hawassa University’s College of Agriculture maintains a long-standing focus on teaching, research, technology generation, and community service.

Dr. Sintayehu Yigrem, Associate Professor of Dairy Sciences at Hawassa University's School of Animal and Range Sciences, also delivered an address on the importance of collaborative projects. His speech focused on the essential steps and approaches for developing, implementing, and sustaining successful partnerships, emphasizing how collaboration drives joint research, resource mobilization, knowledge sharing, innovation, and institutional capacity development.

The presentations were followed by a plenary discussion, allowing participants to exchange ideas, raise questions, and identify specific areas for joint initiatives.

During the visit, the Hawassa University delegation took a campus tour to observe Borana University's facilities and institutional operations. The tour included visits to the university's laboratories, library, and breed conservation program. The delegation also made a guided visit to the Borana Cultural Center( Giddu Gala Aadaa Booranaa) , where they learned about the rich cultural heritage, indigenous knowledge, and unique traditions of the Borana community.

This Consultative Forum represents an important platform for strengthening the relationship between the two institutions. It opens practical avenues for joint research, academic cooperation, knowledge exchange, innovation, capacity building, and community engagement. Through this partnership, both universities aim to share expertise and generate knowledge that contributes to sustainable development.

Borana University Launches Major Initiative to Enhance Resilient Pastoral Livelihoods and Dairy Value Chains

Borana University | September 18, 2026

Borana University has officially launched the Dairy Value Chain Enhancement Component, a core part of its broader project: "Enhancing Resilient Pastoral Livelihoods through Sustainable Dryland Agriculture, Livestock Development, and Inclusive Business Development Services in Selected Districts of Borana Zone."

The project aims to strengthen the social, economic, and environmental resilience of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities through sustainable resource management. It focuses on building community capacity in climate-resilient agriculture, apiculture, sustainable animal production, health services, entrepreneurship, and market-oriented value chains.

The launching event commenced with a welcoming speech by the Community Engagement Director, Dr. Galgalo Dika, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted the core purpose of the initiative. He noted that the launching serves as a vital opportunity to unite institutional knowledge, resources, and commitment around a shared development agenda. He also emphasized that the project's overarching goal is to empower rural women at the center of the dairy value chain by improving milk quality, market access, and income. To achieve this vision, he urged stakeholders to embrace the initiative as a collaborative platform for community development.

In his opening remarks, Borana University President Dr. Befekadu Chemere noted that pastoral and agro-pastoral communities face increasingly complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. He emphasized that livestock and dairy production remain vital sources of nutrition, livelihoods, and income—particularly for rural women.

Dr. Befekadu highlighted the project's focus on building community capacity in climate-resilient agriculture, apiculture, and natural resource management. Furthermore, the President stressed that the success of this three-year initiative depends entirely on strong multi-stakeholder collaboration.

“This project should not be viewed simply as a Borana University project, but as a shared platform for collaboration and community development,” he stated.

Moving forward, the President called upon all partners to contribute their expertise and local knowledge, reaffirming the university's commitment to community-driven engagement.

Following the opening remarks, a comprehensive overview of the project was presented by Mr. Roba Dhadacha Dida, Dean of the College of Pastoral Studies and Dryland Agriculture and Project Leader. He detailed the core strategic pillars, target milestones, and ex*****on timelines of the dairy component.

During the event, a discussion session was held, bringing together university management and participants. This open forum allowed stakeholders to align on ex*****on strategies, address localized implementation needs, and solidify mutual commitments.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Borana Zone Agriculture Office, the Borana Zone Youth and Women’s Affairs Office, Also in attendance were representatives from the Yabalo District Administration Office, the Yabalo Woreda Agriculture Office, the Yabalo District Cooperative Office, and the Yabalo Woreda Youth and Women’s Affairs Office. Additional participants included the Jatani Ali Foundation (JAF), Yabalo Pastoralist TVET College, NGOs, and project beneficiaries.

The successful launch marks a critical milestone for the region. By uniting local administration, academic institutions, and grassroots organizations, this partnership establishes a strong foundation for shared progress, ultimately empowering the pastoralist communities of the Borana Zone to achieve sustainable development.

ቦረና ዩኒቨርሲቲ | መስከረም 6 ቀን 2019 ዓ.ም.

ቦረና ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከአካዳሚክ እና ከአስተዳደር ሠራተኞቹ ጋር አጠቃላይ የግምገማ መድረክ አካሄደ። መድረኩ የተጠናቀቀውን የ2018 ዓ.ም. የሥራ አፈጻጸም በመማር-ማስተማር፣ በጥናትና ምርምር እንዲሁም በማኅበረሰብ ጉድኝት አገልግሎት ዘርፎች በሰፊው የገመገመ ሲሆን፣ ለቀጣዩ ለ2019 ዓ.ም. የሚሆን ስትራቴጂካዊ የሥራ ዕቅድ ላይም ተወያይቷል።

የአስተዳደር እና ልማት ጉዳዮች ምክትል ፕሬዚዳንት ዶ/ር ኩላ ጅሎ በመክፈቻ ንግግራቸው እንደገለጹት፦ “ይህ መድረክ የ2018 ዓ.ም. የተከናወኑ ሥራዎቻችንን የምንገመግምበት፣ የቀሰምናቸውን ልምዶች ደግሞ ለቀጣይ ዓመት የሥራ አፈጻጸም ስትራቴጂካዊ አቅጣጫዎች የምናስቀምጥበት ትልቅ ምዕራፍ ነው። በእነዚህ ግምገማዎች ላይ በመመስረት የነገውን ስትራቴጂካዊ ዕቅዳችንን የምናዘጋጅ ሲሆን፣ በተመሳሳይ ጊዜም የላቀ ስኬት ላስመዘገቡ ሠራተኞቻችን እውቅና የምንሰጥበት ይሆናል” ብለዋል።

ከመክፈቻ ንግግሩ በመቀጠል፣ የፕሬዚዳንት ጽሕፈት ቤት ኃላፊ አቶ ዴበኖ ቦነያ ዝርዝር ሪፖርት አቅርበዋል። ሪፖርቱ የ2018 ዓ.ም. አፈጻጸምን በጥልቀት የገመገመ ሲሆን፣ ለ2019 ዓ.ም. ዓመታዊ ዕቅድ የተቀመጡ ስትራቴጂካዊ አቅጣጫዎችንና ግቦችንም ይፋ አድርጓል።

በዝርዝር ከቀረበው ሪፖርት በኋላ በዩኒቨርሲቲው አመራሮችና በሠራተኞች መካከል ሰፊ ውይይት ተካሂዷል። መምህራንና የአስተዳደር ሠራተኞች ገንቢ አስተያየቶችን የሰጡ ሲሆን፣ በቀጣዩ የትምህርት ዘመን ለተቋሙ ዕድገት በሚረዱ ዋና ዋና ግቦች ላይም መክረዋል።

በተካሄደው የውይይት መድረክ የቦረና ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚዳንት ዶ/ር በፈቃዱ ጨመረ የተቋማዊ የጋራ ቅንጅት አስፈላጊነት አፅንዖት ሰጥተው አብራርተዋል። በተቀናጀ የጋራ ጥምረት ቀጣይነት ያለው ዕድገት እውን እንደሚሆንም ገልጸዋል። በተጨማሪም፣ ሠራተኞች በቀጣዩ ስትራቴጂካዊ ዕቅድ አፈጻጸም ላይ በንቃት በመሳተፍ፣ ዕቅዱን ወደ ተጨባጭ ውጤትና ተቋማዊ ዕድገት እንዲቀይሩ አሳስበዋል።

በዕለቱ መርሀ ግብር ማጠናቀቂያ ላይ በ2018 በጀት ዓመት የላቀ አፈጻጸም ላሳዩ የአካዳሚክ እና የአስተዳደር ሠራተኞች የምስክር ወረቀትና ማበረታቻ የተሰጠበት የሽልማት ሥነ-ሥርዓት ተካሂዷል። ከዚህ ጋር ተያይዞ በማኅበረሰብ ጉድኝት አገልግሎት ላይ ከፍተኛ ተሳትፎና አስተዋፅኦ ላበረከቱ መምህራንም የእውቅና ምስክር ወረቀት ተሰጥቷቸዋል።

ተሸላሚዎቹ ዩኒቨርሲቲው ስላደረገላቸው እውቅና ለአመራሩ ጥልቅ ምስጋናቸውን አቅርበዋል። ይህ ሽልማት ትልቅ የውስጥ መነሳሳትን የፈጠረ መሆኑንና አዲሱን የ2019 ዓ.ም. ስትራቴጂካዊ ግቦችን በአዲስ መንፈስና በትጋት ለመተግበር የጋራ ቁርጠኝነታቸውን እንደሚያድስ ገልጸዋል።

Borana University Evaluates Annual Performance and Formulates Strategic Plan for the Upcoming Academic Year

Borana University has conducted a comprehensive evaluation meeting with its academic and administrative staff. The forum was centered on an extensive performance review of the concluded 2018 E.C., which focused on Teaching-Learning, Research, and Community Engagement, while setting the strategic operational roadmap for the upcoming 2019 E.C.

In his opening speech, Dr Kula Jilo, Vice President for Administration and Development Affairs, stated, "This forum serves as a critical milestone to evaluate our performance and address the institutional challenges encountered during 2018 E.C., leveraging these insights to formulate our strategic roadmap for the upcoming year, while concurrently celebrating our workforce's exceptional achievements through a dedicated recognition ceremony."

Following the opening remarks, a key highlight of the meeting was a thorough presentation delivered by Mr. Debeno Bonaya, Head of the President's Office. The report provided an in-depth analysis of the 2018 E.C. performance, while simultaneously outlining the strategic directions and milestones set for the 2019 E.C. annual plan.

The presentation was followed by a wide-ranging discussion between university management and staff. Faculty and administrative personnel actively contributed constructive feedback, addressed operational challenges, and aligned on high-priority targets to ensure institutional growth in the coming academic year.

During the plenary discussion, Borana University President, Dr Befekadu Chemere, underscored the critical importance of institutional synergy, noting that sustainable advancement is fundamentally contingent upon collective commitment. Furthermore, he exhorted the staff to operationalise strategic planning into tangible, high-impact outcomes that drive institutional growth in the coming academic year.

At the conclusion of the event, an award recognition ceremony was held to honour academic and administrative staff members who demonstrated outstanding performance during the concluded 2018 E.C. fiscal year, featuring the presentation of merit certificates and incentives.Concurrently, certificates of recognition were also conferred upon faculty members who demonstrated exceptional participation and outstanding contributions to community engagement initiatives.

The award recipients expressed their deep appreciation to the university management for the formal recognition. They noted that the awards serve as a powerful motivation catalyst and reaffirmed the workforce's collective commitment to executing the newly established 2019 E.C. strategic objectives with renewed dedication.

ይህ የ“ነገ ቀን” መርሃ ግብር ዛሬ ላይ ሆነን ለነገው ትውልድና ለሀገር ብልጽግና በዕቅድ፣ በእውቀትና በትጋት መሥራት እንዳለብን ለማመላከት ያለመ ነው። ዩኒቨርሲቲው ይህንን ዓላማ ሰንቆ በበዓሉ ዋዜማ ያበረከተው የዱቄትና የምግብ ዘይት ልገሳ ድጋፍ ለሚሹ የማኅበረሰብ ክፍሎች የበዓል ገበታ ለማገዝ ታስቦ የተዘጋጀ ነው።

በዕለቱ በተካሄደው የድጋፍ መርሃ ግብር ላይ የተገኙት የቦረና ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአስተዳደርና ልማት ምክትል ፕሬዚዳንት ዶ/ር ኩላ ጅሎ፤ ዩኒቨርሲቲው መጪውን አዲስ ዓመት ምክንያት በማድረግ፣ የበዓል ደስታን ለማጋራት በያቤሎ ከተማ ለሚገኙ ድጋፍ ለሚሹ የማኅበረሰብ ክፍሎች የበዓል ገበታ ድጋፍ ማድረጉን ተናግረዋል። አክለውም ዩኒቨርሲቲው በተጠናቀቀው የ2018 የሥራ ዘመን በርካታ የማኅበረሰብ አገልግሎቶችን ሲያከናውን መቆየቱን አስታውሰው፣ በቀጣይም የማኅበራዊ ተደራሽነት ተጠናክሮ እንደሚቀጥል ገልጸዋል። በመጨረሻም መጪው አዲስ ዓመት ለሁላችንም የሰላምና የጤና ዓመት እንዲሆንላችሁ እመኛለሁ በማለት መልካም ምኞታቸውን አስተላልፈዋል።

በመርሃ ግብሩ ላይ የተገኙት የቦረና ዞን ሴቶችና ህፃናት ጉዳይ ጽሕፈት ቤት ኃላፊ ወ/ሮ ጡነሌ ጎዳና በበኩላቸው፤ ቦረና ዩኒቨርሲቲ በዋዜማው ላደረገው የላቀ የበጎ አድራጎት ሥራ የተሰማቸውን ደስታ ገልጸው፣ በጽሕፈት ቤቱ ስም ምስጋና አቅርበዋል።

የበዓል ገበታው ተጠቃሚ የሆኑት የአካባቢው ነዋሪዎችም ዩኒቨርሲቲው በዋዜማው ያደረገላቸውን ወቅታዊ ድጋፍ ከልብ አመስግነዋል።

ቦረና ዩኒቨርሲቲ በተጠናቀቀው የ2018 የሥራ ዘመን የማኅበረሰብ አገልግሎት ተደራሽነቱን ለማስፋት በርካታ ተግባራትን አከናውኗል። ከተከናወኑት ዋና ዋና ሥራዎች መካከል፦

ለ2,800 ተማሪዎች የትምህርት መርጃ መሣሪያዎችና ቁሳቁስ ድጋፍ ማድረጉ፣
ለተማሪዎች አገልግሎት የሚውሉ ወንበሮችና ጠረጴዛዎች (ዴስኮች) ማበርከቱ፣
ለ6 የመንግሥት ተቋማት የኮምፒውተር ድጋፍ መስጠቱ፣
በቦረና ዞን በሚገኘው 14 ወረዳዎች ውስጥ ለሚገኙ የ12ኛ ክፍል ተማሪዎች የንቅናቄ (Motivation ) ሥልጠናና የክረምት ቲቶሪያል (የክለሳ ትምህርት) ፕሮግራም ማቅረቡ፣
ለመምህራንና ለትምህርት ባለሙያዎች የፔዳጎጂ አሰልጣኞች ሥልጠናና የአቅም ግንባታ ሥራዎችን ማከናወኑ፣
እንዲሁም ድጋፍ ለሚሹ የማኅበረሰብ ክፍሎች የቤት እደሳና ግንባታ ማከናወን፣ እንዲሁም የአንደኛ ደረጃ ትምህርት ቤት ግንባታን ማጠናቀቅ በዋናነት ይጠቀሳሉ።

ዩኒቨርሲቲው በቀጣይም ማኅበራዊ ኃላፊነቱን በላቀ ደረጃ ለመወጣትና የትምህርት ልማትን ለማበረታታት በቁርጠኝነት እንደሚሠራ አስታውቋል።
