DogRisk

DogRisk DogRisk: a research group studying the relationship between dogs' diseases, nutrition and environment Dogs and people suffer from same diseases.

They also share the same living environment and sometimes even the same food. Philogenetically dogs are much closer to humans than mice or other laboratory animals. The DOGRISK project studies national public diseases which are more or less the same in humans and dogs. As these diseases, like atopy, diabetes, ostearthritis, hypothyroidism, irritable bowl syndrome etc., are affecting millions of pe

oples lives, they are also a big burden to millions of dogs and their owners. We are interested in associations between diseases, nutrition, genes, environment, and microbiota. By using client-owned dogs as our study population, we are hoping to help both man's best friend and people to get a happier and healthier life.

New DogRisk study out! 🧪🐾

Our new study compared energy metabolism biomarkers in 46 Staffordshire Bull Terriers fed either a kibble or a raw food diet over 4.5 months. 🐶📈

“Fat-rich diets may promote healthier metabolism, while carb-heavy diets can lead to changes linked to metabolic risk,” says the study's lead researcher Dr. Sarah Holm. ✨

Key findings:
-Dogs on kibble (high carbs) showed increased blood sugar, blood lipids, and bodyweight.
-Dogs on raw food (high fat, low/no carbs) showed decreased blood sugar, blood lipids, and insulin resistance markers.
-Raw-fed dogs had higher levels of ketones and relied more on fat for energy.

This research also shows that dogs could help us understand human metabolism ❤️🐾
