Meet Mihhail Selevko!

Mihhail studies Game Design in a blended learning programme at our Kouvola campus and competes internationally in figure skating.

Mihhail is a four-time Estonian national champion and has represented Estonia at both the European Figure Skating Championships and the World Figure Skating Championships.

We wish Mihhail the very best of luck in both his studies and his athletic career!

Soon, we’ll be sharing more about his journey and how he combines higher education with international-level sports.

🎓 Who should be Xamk’s Alum of the Year?

We are once again looking for nominations for Xamk’s Alum of the Year! You can nominate an alum who has made a distinguished contribution in their field after graduation, collaborated with Xamk, promoted Xamk or their field of study in a positive way, or otherwise demonstrated outstanding achievements. Anyone can submit a nomination.

New English-taught business degree programmes in Mikkeli
Xamk is expanding its international education offering in Mikkeli with two new business degree programmes starting in autumn 2027: Digital International Business (BBA) and International Business Management (MBA).

Together, the programmes provide an international study pathway from bachelor's to master's level. The MBA programme will also be Xamk's first English-taught master's degree programme in Mikkeli.

Applications for international students open in November 2026.

The new programmes support Xamk's goal of attracting international students and strengthening opportunities for international education in South-Eastern Finland.

💡 Move and Learn

The moving lecture – branded as a Move and Learn consept - is a new way to study online. Students came up with this idea.
When you see the mark (*LL/M&L) next to a lecture, you can only listen to the lecture and move or do something else at the same time. For example, you can go outside, clean the house or do light exercise. And the best part is - this is allowed.

The teacher does not need to move or lead exercise for the lecture. We encourage Xamk teachers to use this method in autumn lectures.

Move and Learn is being tested in the Heals+ project. One goal of the project is to increase everyday physical activity.

🌍 SDG Flag Day is a global initiative that highlights the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the work being done to achieve them.

At Xamk, we are building a more sustainable future by educating professionals who bring knowledge, skills, and new ways of thinking into working life.

According to a 2025 graduate survey, studying at Xamk strengthened students’ sustainability skills and motivation to act more sustainably. On a scale of 1 to 7, graduates rated the impact of their studies at 5.3 for sustainability competence and 5.4 for motivation to promote sustainability.

Sustainability is also one of the key priorities in Xamk’s Pedagogical Development Programme 2026–2030. In the coming years, it will be reflected even more strongly in curricula and practical learning projects.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Xamk campuses hosted the ÄXÖN EXPO mini fairs!

The events gave students a chance to connect with local service providers and organizations that support student wellbeing, studies, and everyday life. At the same time, they could discover what their campus city has to offer, from hobbies and events to communities and networking opportunities.

It was a great way to find new activities, meet people, and get involved in campus life.

Savonlinna degree programmes, together with Integration Services, hosted a Welcome Coffee event for students on Tuesday, 8 September! ☕

Students enjoyed coffee and sweet treats while getting to know each other and having the opportunity to ask questions from higher education experts.

"This is a great way for both new and returning students to meet one another in a relaxed atmosphere, even across different study programmes. At the same time, we can answer any questions students may have. For example, we recently discussed with international students why it is important to wear a reflector when walking outdoors in low light or darkness," says Integration Coordinator Karoliina Helander.
