Raquel Benmergui

Raquel Benmergui Raquel Benmergui provides handmade lo-fi arts-based (graphic) facilitation. I like to work in real-time and on-site, using markers on large sheets of paper.

By combining my skills as an applied drama practitioner, university lecturer and a kinaesthetic-visual thinker, I provide handmade lo-fi arts-based (graphic) facilitation! I am insatiably curious, a great listener, quick on my feet, easy to work with, energetic, and fluent in English and Finnish. I can also work small-scale, taking visual notes as an event participant. I often co-operate with sele

ct HR, service design, and strategic foresight consultants/facilitators, offering another dimension to their workshops. Or I can work on my own, facilitating or graphically recording talks, meetings, group sessions or whole events. My strength is my ability to quickly capture information, see connections, support collaboration and communicate a holistic picture.

Day 3 of Digital Youth Work—state of play. Just a tiny piece of an organic whole. Visual nerd? I have had lots of opportunities to do synchronous work—>live graphic recording but also asynchronous work. This is an example of such an opportunity to add value in a different way. After 2 days of presentations, discussions, panels and online world cafes, a core group of Observers gathered online to discuss their reflections. They recorded the meeting on Zoom and sent me the recording via WeTransfer (one of my favourite tools!) and I was able to then capture their meeting on my own time. Something lovely about being able to listen and then rewind or stop the meeting for a moment to capture a thought with precision. It also allowed me to reposition thoughts once I saw what points were actually more important than others—and the interconnectedness of the discussion. I actually flipped the emerging capture and the final image is in a completely different order than the discussion. But in actuality it is a better reflection and representation of the discussion. The visual will be used to recap the reflections and observations to the larger group this morning. And then the visual takes on a new role of silently facilitating the discussion. Just some of my own musings on working asynchronously as a graphic recorder. It would be lovely to see and hear more discussions about hybridity in our field and the ways you are finding to contribute. .lta

Day 2 of Digital Youth Work—State of Play hybrid event. This pic is not meant for you to be able to read properly. Just some input for fellow visual nerds. In this wonderful process I created preliminary visual material by summarising the reports of the different work groups. At the hybrid gathering we used Howspace as a landing page for all material, links and info. Zoom for collaboration in breakout rooms. YouTube to stream the talks. Flinga (which you see here) to harvest the open space discussions with my illustration in the middle. I am also further distilling the open space discussions into visual summaries. I love being part of these types of holistic processes. .lta

I had a lovely opportunity to cooperate on a longer process with Finland’s Ministry of Education. First with their seminar earlier this winter and then with their interesting Digital Youth Work Project. Listening with my Apple Pencil today to hear the wonderful discussion and presentations that take place online. .lta
