Where learning means more. We’re more than a university and more than a college.

We offer many more options to our students than any single college or university can. We want to build pride in UHI because being part of it means we are all much more than we are individually. Spanning some of the most stunning areas of Scotland, we are shaped by extraordinary landscapes and the seas that surround us. Where we learn helps to define us. You will find us among the mountains and for

ests and on islands. In historic towns and cities, hi-tech research parks, and state-of-the art learning environments. We bring together our collective expertise, uniting more than 30,000 students through our sense of place and purpose. More than most, we stand for diversity and opportunity. We offer more choice, more courses and more ways to learn. Our students can study at one of our campuses, world-class research centres, local learning centres, or online from wherever they want or need to be. We offer an outstanding experience, unlike anywhere else. UHI, where learning means more.

Things are starting to get going in Kilchoan once again and I may be there several times over the next month or so as the Engagement Officer (Interim) for the UHI Learning Centres in Strontian and Kilchoan. If anyone wants to drop in for a chat about what the UHI North, West and Hebrides can be doing in your area, please message me or email (see below) so I can let you know when I will be available.

It would be great if I could also get the message around the north part of Mull so people over there can have access too. If anyone has any contacts of groups or organisations on Mull / in Tobermory or knows any Facebook groups on the island for promoting events, please do ask them to email me on [email protected] so I can keep them informed too.

TUTORS NEEDED LOCALLY

We are currently looking for enthusiastic local people to lead short-courses (c. 4 x 1 hr sessions) in something practical and that you are passionate about and think other locals would also enjoy.

These will either be part of a series of 'basics' or 'I can...' offerings with the intention of interesting and upskilling people, having some fun and learning the basics of a new skill in a relaxed and social group setting.

Could you offer any of the following at a basic level?

➕ Arts or crafts (e.g. 'I can draw/paint/write/sew')
➕ Bicycle maintenance
➕ Card games (e.g. bridge, whist, etc.)
➕ Fitness and health (e.g. yoga, Pilates, meditation, etc.)
➕ Languages (Gaelic, Polish, German, Spanish, etc.)
➕ Photography (landscapes, portraits, wildlife)
➕ Poly tunnel building and growing
➕ Wildlife (land, river and sea)

Over to you - what skills do you have that might interest others?

The first draft posters for (provisional) courses are looking good (on paper at least).

Chainsaw courses hopefully coming soon along with Gaelic, higher level Food Hygiene and lots more...

Courses need a minimum number to make them viable to run, so please let us know what you'd like to see and how many people you know that would attend.

SUNART LEARNING CENTRE COURSES

These are the first draft posters for the first six leisure and business courses that we intend to run at the UHI NWH Strontian Learning Centre in the very near future.

Full details will be made available once they are confirmed.

Will you be signing up for any of them?

What other courses would you like to see? (Chainsaw is proving an issue just now, but we hope it will become the seventh course).

Do let us know by message or email.
