🏛️ HISTORICAL SPOTLIGHT: BISHOP BURNETT MEMORIAL LOL 3 🏛️

Formed in 1939, Bishop Burnett Memorial LOL 3 has carried a proud legacy across Prestwick and Ayr for over eight decades.

📜 Our Name & Heritage:
The lodge commemorates Bishop Gilbert Burnet (1643–1715), a Scottish-born Professor of Divinity at Glasgow University and a key advisor to King William of Orange during the Glorious Revolution of 1688.

🏠 Early Beginnings:
In our early years, Brethren gathered for meetings in the local Prestwick Village Hall—fondly remembered by locals as "The Wash House."

🏅 Founding Leadership:
First Worthy Master: Brother Alex Nimmo
Esteemed Past Master: Brother Alexander Keir—a figure so instrumental to local Orangeism that District 34 bears his name today, with his descendants still residing in the town.
📍 Present Day Meetings:
We continue to meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM in the Memorial Hall, 20 North Harbour Street, Ayr.

Congratulations to Alex Knox of LOL 47 Patna,

who was presented with his 60-Year Service Jewel at his meeting yesterday! 🏅

Alex is a true stalwart of the lodge, having served as Worthy Master (WM) for 10 years alongside holding various other office bearer roles. His dedicated service extends to serving as Juvenile Superintendent for 40 years, and he is an Honorary County Deputy Master. Alex has also been heavily involved with all Patna flute bands over the years.

Thank you, Alex, for your incredible 60 years of dedicated service and leadership! 👏🎉

What Does an Orangeman Look Like?

An Orangeman looks like a father, a son, a brother, a grandfather, a neighbour or a friend.

He could be an electrician, a farmer, a teacher, a firefighter, a soldier, a nurse, a builder, a shop worker or retired after a lifetime of service.

He volunteers in his community, gives to charity, supports local events and stands alongside others in times of need.

He is proud of his faith, his heritage and the principles of civil and religious liberty.

He isn’t defined by stereotypes. He’s an ordinary man from an ordinary community, striving to make a positive difference.

At Alexander Keir Memorial District 34, we are proud of the men who represent our District with dignity, respect and integrity.

Steeped in a rich history that traces our roots back to at least 1859 (and likely even earlier), Bro. James Gillespie Memorial LOL 47 stands as a proud pillar of the Patna and Ayrshire community.
✨ Our History & Heritage
Originally founded as the Faith Defenders, our Lodge officially changed its name on August 27th, 1988, to honour the enduring memory and dedicated service of Brother James Gillespie. A true pillar of the Order, Bro. Gillespie served as the Lodge Treasurer starting in 1932 and also held the esteemed position of Treasurer for DLOL 34 from 1939 until his sudden passing in 1983.
🏡 Our Home in Patna
For many years following our inception, the Lodge held meetings in various premises throughout the area. In 1974, we secured a permanent home by purchasing our hall at 78 Main Street, Patna, which has remained our base of operations, our home, and a centre for our activities ever since.
🤝 A Community-Spirited Lodge
We are, at our heart, a community-spirited lodge dedicated to the well-being of Patna and its residents. Our commitment to local life is deeply ingrained in our history:

* Service to the Church: Over the decades, many of our members have dedicated themselves to local faith, serving with distinction as Church Elders.
* Remembrance: We take great pride in our annual participation in the Patna Remembrance Sunday church service. Standing alongside the wider Patna community, we participate in the wreath-laying ceremony to honour those who served.

👑 Leadership & Timings
Under the current leadership of our Worthy Master, Bro. David Collins, we continue to proudly uphold our traditions of faith, history, and fellowship.
📅 Lodge meets the last Saturday of the month at 3:30 PM at Orange Hall.

Meet the lodges!! Patna LLOL 139

Bonnie Doon LLOL 139 was inaugurated on 22nd November 1924, under the leadership of Sister M Whiteford as Worthy Mistress. Sister Whiteford held this position for 8 years both in her maiden name of Whiteford and latterly her married name of McCulloch.

The current Worthy Mistress leading the Lodge today is Lynette McLean.

Towards the end of World War Two, the Lodge struggled to remain open during such a difficult time and sadly, with so few members, the Lodge folded. It remained dormant until 1949 when the ladies of Patna and surrounding areas successfully applied to reopen the Lodge under the leadership of Sister M Jones. Subsequent Worthy Mistresses have seen the sisters through some difficult times—none more so than the Covid-19 pandemic, where we can proudly say our Sisters worked tirelessly to support the most vulnerable and at risk throughout the community.

LLOL 139 are proud of the Sisters who have served on the Ladies Orange Association of Scotland and the work they carried out for our Association.

We can honestly say we have had many achievements we can be proud of, but a week-long “Orange Awareness Event” which showcased what the Orange Order is about and worked to dispel various myths and prejudices held against us. The week was rounded off by a Church Parade and Conventicle held in the middle of the Village, heavily supported throughout by members of District 34, our neighbouring Lodges, and the community within the Doon Valley. There was also the Battlefield Tour to the Somme and the Menin Gate in 2016 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, which was organised which was well attended by members of our lodge, lodges without District 34, Patna Faith Defenders Flute Band and their families. These have got to be 2 of the most memorable events so far.

The Lodge holds its meetings in The Orange Hall, Main Street, Patna, on the last Tuesday of every month, with the exception of July & December.

Annbank Rising Star LOL 250: A Brief History

The Early Years & The Orange Firebrand

Annbank Rising Star LOL 250 was originally founded in 1874. At its inception, the name of the lodge was Johnston’s Invincibles.

The name was a direct tribute to William Johnston of Ballykilbeg, a nineteenth-century M.P. and a prominent member of the Orange Order. Known widely as the "Orange firebrand," Johnston was noted for his staunch opposition to the Party Emblems Act and especially the Party Processions Act, which banned Orange marches. During his four years as an independent Conservative M.P., he gained status as a folk hero for his fierce opposition to the Party Processions Act and his unyielding assertion of the right of Orangemen to march.

In 1877, just a few years after forming, the lodge changed its name to what it is today: Annbank Rising Star.

Warrants and the Post-WWI Era

The lodge's current warrant was officially issued on October 8th, 1919. The Worthy Master at that time was Brother Alexander Frew.
The legacy of Brother Frew remains deeply rooted within the Order; his grandson served faithfully as a member of LOL 250 (now sadly deceased), while his great-grandson proudly carries on the family tradition as a member of a sister Lodge in Tranent.

The 1950s: The Wonder Years

The 1950s were considered the "wonder years" for the lodge, a period when membership numbers surged to over 100 annually.
The definitive highlight of this era occurred on July 11th, 1959, when the districts of Ayrshire and Govan 42 met in Annbank for a massive joint celebration to commemorate the Battle of the Boyne.

Modern Leadership

Today, the lodge continues to be defined by strong family dedication and continuity. The current Worthy Master is Brother Richard Lynch, who has occupied the chair for a good number of years, serving alongside his son, Alan Lynch, who holds the position of lodge secretary.

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Dreghorn Sisters of the Star LLOL 237 meeting.

During the meeting, Bro. George McGregor, Worthy Master of Dreghorn Parish Loyal Defenders LOL 218, presented the Ladies' Lodge with a Bible as a gift in honor of their 50th anniversary year.

Congratulations to everyone involved, and well done to all who attended. It was a fantastic evening! 🌟📖
