🎓🌍Congratulations to PhD candidate Pretty Karibo from Sociology and Social Policy at Bangor University! 🎉

Pretty presented her research at the 9th International Conference on Future of Social Sciences and Humanities (14-16 August 2026).

Her paper, “IFI-Linked Fiscal Pressure and Human Development Outcomes: A Machine-Learning Analysis,” was accepted following a rigorous double-blind peer-review process.

Her doctoral research explores how international financial institution (IFI) linked fiscal conditions shape human development outcomes across developing economies, combining machine-learning analysis with interviews and focus groups to generate new insights.

We are proud to see Pretty sharing her work with an international academic audience. Congratulations on this fantastic achievement! 🌍👏🎓

🎓🌍 Llongyfarchiadau i fyfyrwraig PhD Pretty Karibo o Gymdeithaseg a Pholisi Cymdeithasol ym Mhrifysgol Bangor! 🎉

Mae Pretty wedi cyflwyno ei hymchwil yn 9fed Cynhadledd Ryngwladol Dyfodol y Gwyddorau Cymdeithasol a'r Dyniaethau (14-16 Awst 2026).

Mae ei hymchwil ddoethurol ehangach yn archwilio sut mae amodau cyllidol sy'n gysylltiedig â sefydliadau ariannol rhyngwladol (IFIs) yn effeithio ar ganlyniadau datblygiad dynol ar draws economïau sy'n datblygu, gan gyfuno dadansoddiad dysgu peirianyddol â chyfweliadau a grwpiau ffocws i greu mewnwelediadau newydd.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended this morning's BA Sociology talk at Bangor University Open Day. It was fantastic to meet so many prospective students and their families and to share what makes studying Sociology at Bangor such a rewarding experience.
