Gary Lilley showed up in Bath from Belfast wearing a duffle coat in the late-August heat – much to the amusement of his new flatmates.

What followed were years that revolved around the football team. "The pivotal thing in my life has been the friendships that came out of football," he says.

After graduating, he spent a year selling Kits Kats in and around Bath before moving to London to chase bigger dreams. A Bath friend asked him to consider a career in stockbroking, and the rest is history.

Gary's career saw him moving the the US where he flourished. "I found myself at the right time, in the right place, in the right profession," he says.

It was inspiring to hear from Lucy Thomas and Ian Johnston, who shared how relationships, networks and connections have shaped their careers and opened up opportunities along the way.

"Channel 4 taking on the Paralympics was a real game-changer. Suddenly Paralympians had a platform and individual profiles. Before that, we'd often feature in a highlights package. London created an opportunity to enter the mainstream."

After graduating from Bath, Alexandra went on to compete at three Paralympic Games alongside sailing partner Niki Birrell, winning bronze at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Today, she's using the lessons she learned from elite sport to tackle one of its biggest challenges: becoming more sustainable.
