Sometimes we don’t stay in a sh*tty situation because we actually think it’s good for us.
We stay because we’ve figured out exactly how to survive it.
We know the unspoken rules.
We know exactly what mood to watch out for, when to open our mouths, when to shut up, and which parts of ourselves we need to hide just to keep the peace.
Stepping into something new might mean more freedom & the actual happiness we want, but it also means walking into something we don’t know how to navigate.
To the part of our brain that's just trying to keep us safe, a familiar hell can feel a whole lot safer than an unfamiliar paradise.
Are you in a situation you've completely outgrown, but you’ve become really, really good at surviving it?
