Now that all conditions have been met, we can confirm 65 new undergraduate freshers, and 3 Foundation Year students will be joining us in October. 👏

Almost 400 people applied to St Edmund’s this year, and the standard of applications was high. The very nature of mature admissions makes it hard to quantify results in ‘standard’ A-level terms, with many of our new students meeting or exceeding their offers through a combination of A-levels, International Baccalaureates, Access to Higher Education Diplomas and a range of part-time qualifications.

All of this is testament to the incredible amount of hard work that many mature students invest in their studies, often without the usual frameworks of institutional support that many school-leavers rely on.

Coming from various different walks of life and equipped with such a wide range of lived experiences, mature students make both St Edmund’s and the wider University an incredibly diverse and vibrant place. One where thinking is encouraged, ideas are exchanged, and better futures are formed.

Alumni gather in Seoul with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki‑moon.

On 14 August 2026, the Asia‑Pacific alumni community convened in Seoul for an international gathering with former UN Secretary‑General Ban Ki‑moon.

Fellow and Development Ambassador, Jeffrey Wei Liu FRSA, who hosted the event said:

"We were deeply honoured to welcome Mr Ban Ki-moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations and an Honorary Doctor of Law of the University of Cambridge, together with his wife, as our distinguished guests. All those present rose to warmly welcome Mr Ban and to pay tribute to his distinguished record of international public service.

"This year marks the tenth anniversary of Mr Ban receiving an Honorary Doctor of Law from the University of Cambridge in 2016. Alumni offered their warmest congratulations and expressed their profound respect for his outstanding contributions to international cooperation, sustainable development and global peace during his tenure as Secretary-General of the United Nations.

"Mr Ban extended his warm greetings to Cambridge alumni and shared a little-known personal story about his connection with the University – he had once applied to study at Cambridge. He expressed his deep appreciation to the University for conferring an honorary doctorate upon him in 2016 and spoke of the great honour and pride he felt in becoming part of the wider Cambridge community.

"Mr Ban encouraged Cambridge alumni to uphold the spirit of Cambridge and to draw upon their knowledge, experience and international outlook to make meaningful contributions to global peace, sustainable development and social progress."

This is St Edmund's CR 🎉

Cambridge may have a bit of a studious reputation, but we're not all work here.

The CR is the central hub of the College. You can work here, but most students use it as a communal spot to relax by reading, watching a film, or playing some board games. The tea trolley has become a special tradition in College and is a great way to come chat to people you've not met before - and of course nab a free tea or coffee.

The CR also houses our bar - one of the smallest bars in Cambridge with one of the biggest reputations. With cheap drinks and a student team serving, the bar is a lively and inclusive spot, with plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Congratulations to Senior Research Associate, Professor Clemens Sedmak, who has been appointed consultor to the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development by Pope Leo XIV.

This is an important appointment for Professor Clemens Sedmak who is also Director of the Nanovic Institute for European Studies.

His expertise and longstanding commitment to questions of human dignity and social justice will be a valuable contribution to the work of the Dicastery.

Many congratulations to Clemens on this well-deserved achievement. 👏
