This week, we are looking forward to hosting two exciting events with renowned book conservator Cheryl Porter.

On Wednesday the 4th at 5.30pm, Cheryl will be talking to us about The Use of Organic Lake Pigments in Manuscript Painting in the Friends of Peterhouse Room, Peterhouse.

On Thursday the 5th, we have two Making and Painting with Lake Pigments workshops taking place in the Davidson Room, Peterhouse. If you would like to attend one of the sessions, please sign yourself up using the link in bio, and make a payment of £5 to the account details given on the Google document.

Last week, we were thrilled to host Professor Elaine Treharne, who delivered a fascinating talk on ‘The Prioress Amphelisa’s Mortuary Roll and Scribal Practices in England c.1220.’

A few bibs also got the chance to see the incredible 13th-century roll—which measures 11 meters long and features 372 separate inscriptions—in-person at .

TOMORROW at 5.30PM! Please join us for ‘The Prioress Amphelisa’s Mortuary Roll & Scribal Practices in England c.1220’, a talk by Stanford University’s Professor Elaine Treharne.

The roll is one of Cambridge’s greatest treasures and housed in St John’s Old Library.

We will meet in the Friends of Peterhouse Seminar Room, Peterhouse.

Professor Woudhuysen specialises in English literature of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, especially Sir Philip Sidney, Shakespeare, and Samuel Johnson. He also works on post-medieval palaeography, bibliography, and the history of the book. He was the Rector of Lincoln College, Oxford from 2012 to 2024 and before that, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at University College London.
