This year’s May-Hem! Event at Castleford College was another great success; we hosted a wide range of activities across the campus for children to try out, including:

🏉Cheerleading and Rugby with Castleford Tigers
🎮Drone flying and VR games
🪚Mechanics and Carpentry in our workshops
🔎Forensic and crime scene investigation
💄Hairdressing and beauty
🦎Animal interactions with Little Zoo to You..and many more.

This week we held our final Student Leader Conference of the year 💬‼️

🗣️Student Leaders across Castleford College, Wakefield College and Selby College came together to have their voices heard in regards to important issues, student experience and life at College.

The students discussed activities and clubs for the next academic year, the Student Union Constitution, Careers and Progression interventions, as well as taking part in a quiz whilst enjoying pizza and refreshments!🍕

It was great to see so many of our students passionately involved in shaping aspects of College life and we look forward to implementing their ideas next academic year.

Are you looking for something fun and free to do this half-term?

Our annual May-Hem event is back! Our Children’s University members and the public are welcome to join us for a day filled with activities and learning opportunities delivered by Little Zoo to You, Whitwood Girlguiding, Castleford Tigers Rugby and Cheerleading, Wakefield Museums and Wakefield Young Astronomer.

Our tutors will also be delivering sessions across subject areas such as Automotive, Care & Early Years, Carpentry & Joinery, Hair & Beauty, Public Services and Sport. Our I>innovate hub will also be open for attendees to try out Virtual Reality and drone equipment.

There is no need to book a place – just turn up on the day.

Last week, we attended the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards to celebrate our apprentices and Apprenticeship provision👏

One of our Apprentices, Owen, received Highly Commended for the Engineering & Manufacturing Apprentice Award for delivering outstanding work at his employer GS-Hydro UK, as well as being a role model apprentice at College 🏆

The Group was also shortlisted for the Training Provider of the Year Award for our work in delivering strong outcomes in apprenticeships across the region 🤝
